emmissions update .Help...................................
Discussion
Had a friend around today to try and sort out my problems. We cleaned idle screw and butterfly.Cleaned mixture screw on air mass sensor. Not really gummed up.Checked throttle control sensor ok.Changed coollant temparture sensor.Cars runs ok for a while then looes its idle.Cant adjust mixture.to lower emmissions tesed with a gunson i dont think there was aproblem with the old sensor cleaned plugs.Could do with new leads .i just cant understand why its stalling .Cars pulls through the gears no problems it just wont idle.put in some more injection cleaner. If i cant get it to idle .Iwill have to take it to TVR car parts .can you think of any thing else.i know it could be ecu related but as i said it pulls like a train through the rev range it just idle and emmissions.Sorry it a bit long winded .just becoming frustrated. Thanks for your help Mike 350i s2
Thanks all how do i check for problems at idle. The car also has a uprated kent cam shaft fitted.Just read a good site about morgan plus 8 cars .The carseems to be surging. i am just not good with spanners .My mate thinks i should take the car to dulford auto motive tvr car parts. Thanks Mike
You need a fuel pressure gauge. Hang on while I ransack the 'net...
This one should do it:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/50mm-Pressure-Gauge-Base-Ent...
You just need a 1/4" BSP female pipe tail (Machine Mart probably keep them... this sort of thing: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Female-Hose-Adaptor-1-4-BSP-... and a short length of small-bore fuel hose like the injectors use. Screw the hose tail to the gauge, connect the hose with a Jubilee clip then disconnect the hose that feeds the cold start injector, from the fuel rail and connect your test gauge instead (with a Jubilee clip, you don't want a petrol shower).
Turn the ignition on and poke your hand into the airflow meter to move the flap. This'll start the fuel pump and the gauge will show you the fuel rail pressure which should be of the order of 2.5 Bar (on the inner scale) - or about 37psi on the outer scale.
It's a start
