Yo, having fitted the new leccy aerial I today finally got round to sticking all the boot trim that had been pulled off by the previous owner in order to investigate the problem with the old aerial. Whilst I had the boot rear panel off to ensure the side trims were stuck in place correctly I noticed that the two rear interior lights for the boot had no bulbs in but were wired up. I replaced the bulbs and they work fine. My question is this...................

1) If there was no problem with them why were they left with no bulbs in?

2) I worked out that they do not go out when the boot is shut so...................how hot are they likely to get?

Is this why the bulbs were removed?

I suppose it depends on what wattage they are as to how hot they get..They might be enough to drain the battery if left on all night though?..Can you locate the off switch..Perhaps it needs replacing or some WD40..Not sure where it would be though but someone else must have them..Ziga

That's very odd, both of the bulbs were missing when I bought mine too!

I very much doubt a 5 watt bulb, or a 10 watt for that matter is going to get hot enough to do anything any harm, at least they haven't in mine in over a year.

They don't have a seperate switch, they come on with the sidelights.

I wouldn't worry any more about those.

My old ones were mullered (one was covered by the CD changer) but had a on off slide thing like the interior lamp. So I bought some nice after market ones from vehicle wiring products I think. They go on with the side lights but they have the on/off and are better than the old I think. Have to make the hole bigger.

It was a bit of a cheat by TVR that the boot lights are on as long as the sidelamps are. I modified my lights to have a permanent 12v feed (I used the spare blue wire that normally controls the electric aerial; my car has a fixed aerial and anyway I never listen to tosspot DJs) with the earth return via the same switch that triggers the alarm if you open the boot. So the lamps work whenever you open the boot and don't require the sidelamps to be on.... altogether a more satisfactory state of affairs wink

Years ago I found that the boot lights were intermittent which was down to a spring switch getting stuck, not surprising cos it was fixed in the water channel next to the rubber boot seal, have since tried another one with a better water seal but will have to locate it somewhere else less prominent to the elements. Seems a bit daft linking it to the side lights, probably forgot the wire in the plans, anyway you only need boot lights so the illegal immigrant can read the translation dictionary on his way from the docks.he he.
