Having owned my 400 for a month or so now, I'm looking at getting some more power out of it, so a couple of questions.Firstly, is a twin turbo able to be shoe horned under the bonnet. And secondly, what can I do with the brakes as they are pretty poor now, so they already need to be upgraded. Any advice welcomed.

All i know is that if you got the money you can do anything..A twin turbo set up done properly would cost a fair bit of cash..Here are some twin turbo manis for example..Not sure if having big bore valves..Profiled cam..Different stage heads and porting etc would be cheaper or quicker than a twin turbo but it would take up no extra room in the engine compartment compared to two turbos..

Gary,

How about an initial run on your local rolling road just to get a baseline and also to check what you got is running at optimum?

From what I've read on the various TVR forum around 300 bhp (flywheel) is relatively affordable. Much beyond that and costs spiral.

Power is relative to the depth of your pocket.

Thanks for response, rolling road showed 277bhp, so will investigate, limited funds so may have to sell a limb.

277? That's extremely good already.

I can recommend a supercharger any day, mice low down torque and very progressive.

As for the brakes, try braking hard once or twice (60-30 entering a speed limit for example) during every outing, they should improve no end. To get about 50% extra braking force quite cheaply, just stick a set of Mintex 1144 pads on the front.

This could get damn expensive ! Try a hotter cam first , it will make a big difference and is a snip compared to major surgery of fitting supercharger.

Not many Wedges with more power than that to be honest. Some SEAC's had around 300 & the 400 SX's probably sneak over 300. A supercharger install on a wedge engine will cost many thousands unless you do it all yourself. With 277 bhp already, I'd leave well alone or sell it & get a Griff 500. Same cost in the long run. thumbup

scratchchin Or even a Chim 430. I went straight past a highly modified 400SE at Castle Come last weekend. yikes

And i'm guessing with two turbos under the hood of a wedge there will will be a lot more heat to deal with too......................??

TBH if i had 277bhp from a 400 i'd just keep it healthy............but then again....lol

If you got the money put a modified 5ltr lump in it but you may have to change the ecu. I went to V8 developments in Lincolnshire and they've done me a good job on mine, just gotta concentrate on everything else now, john.

To answer your OP's question, yes it is possible to do a DIY supercharger install on a wedge, done it myself and kept it all under the original bonnet.
If you are going to BBWF you can have a look over mine and decide if you want to go down that route.

I have a mate that's really into building supercharger and turbo engines, single and twin. He's out near Heathrow so if anyone needs a quote for custom manifolds etc you can drive by or call him.

He builds a lot of drag engines so boost's not a problem biggrin
