Coming home from work today just cut out! RAC arrived after 5 HOURS waiting. Fair play he did his best.
Turns out the injectors have power but not opening.
The nice man thinks the ECU is bust. Sounds about right to me unless its a floating earth from ECU. Any help guys?
Will swap ECU from the 350i in the morning to confirm.
Fingers crossed.

If no joy try swapping over the Fuel resistor pack (box mounted on n/s wheel arch near the AF meter)

Cheers Tim, What does the resistor pack actually do?
Is it just a bank of resistors to reduce the voltage down fron 12V??

Dont suppose you have an immobiliser that could be playing up? My old 400 SE used to cut out intermittently and it turned out to be a dodgy earth on the immobiliser - just a thought.

Could be the bullet connector somewhere around the airflow meter that links the ECU to the distributor. No trigger signal, no fuel.
The injectors run at about 3v, so the resistor pack just drops the supply. Extremely unlikely to fail.

Edit: try turning the ignition on and then flicking the throttle open quickly. If you hear a tick from the general direction of the injectors it supports the lack of trigger signal. Of course you've probably got hotwire and all this is bollocks...

Cheers guys,
just phoned in a sicky and about to embark on electrickery quest.
My immobilisor is ok as the car wouldn't turnover at all if faulty. RAC man checked the power to injectors with his LED thingies (gomes i think theyre called) and ok. It appears they just arent opening. All quite new to me but here goes.................all thoughts welcome, back soon with an update.
PS its a flapper.

Well so much for the nice man from the RAC!!!
Swapped things over blah blah blah. No joy.
Whent back to basics and no petrol to regulator. Now this could possibly be down to immobilsor but I doubt it. Fuses ok,relays swapped (and the safety relay)
Knackered pump? wireing? split in pipe maybe causing safety relay to operate (doubtful)? blockage?
Called out "one eyed Dave" to tow it to his garage.
I'll die if its out of fuel
PS thanks for the email NHyde.

I still prefer carbs. You can actually see the fuel in the chamber and, if all else fails, a good blow with an air line can get you going. Never could fathom out this technology stuff.

Can't beat a steam engine. You can tell the coal's hot and the steam is under pressure. Bit of a drag on performance, towing 40 tons of Welsh Steam Coal though ...

Mine's been cutting out recently - I thought it was due to it being over rich but it always works when I come to try and sort it. I was thinking of going for a run in it tonight until I read this and now am a bit on edge - need to check the AA cover.

Just been told that my problems have been caused by an intermittent ECU snag , not the resistor pack as originally thought .

Now reduced to one bean on half a piece of toast with NO BUTTER

Sorry to hear about this

The car never let me down like that the whole time I had it.

I guess it's worth checking the fuel pump via the "over fueling method " we discussed before. Go to turn it over using the key, but let the starter stop and leave the ignition on. You should hear the pump still pumping if it is working. The car has had 3? pumps so far in it's life, the last being changed in Aug95 so it's possible it could have gone. Good luck.

Cheers Steve, Should'nt be much of a problem even it is the pump it means 2 new tyres on the 350 instead of 4.
Noticed the receipts for 2 pumps in your history file, my engineering experience tells me to suspect a root cause but then again its a Wedge!
Just hope it can be sorted tomorrow as I had planned to go to my first TVRCC meeting tomorrow. Hey Ho.

Find someone who's handy with a sodering iron and have them resolder both the PCBs in the ECU. An hour tops, and if that doesn't cure it, I'll suck dick.

Dicky,
Hope it gets sorted okay and in time for BBWF.
In the end I took mine for the run last night - ran okay Though the over fuelling causes it to spit flames and pop back! Also brake lights now stuck on, steering wheel out by one spline after changing the bush, main beam is as much use as a chocolate fire guard and it pissed down 2 miles from home - deluge on the drive with the roof off
Ho hum - the up's and downs of Wedgism
