I personally wouldn't (and didn't) bother trying to refurb them - just get reconditioned exchange units from a local motor factor - they should be able to supply the discs as well. New pads. Might be worth replacing the handbrake pads as well, as they get crumbly with age / heat. Whilst the diff is out, have a good look around the chassis for cracks. Easier to weld in reinforcement whilst it's out. Change the diff oil. Check the diff beam for cracks (although IMHO when they go they just break, and you will know it. Have a look at the fuel lines back there as well. If you really want to go to town, replace the wishbone bushes. Don't forget that the rear calipers need to be lockwired in place (just in case it's missing when you dismantle). Good luck.

If you want to DIY you can get a seal kit easy to fit. most of the Jag suppliers do them. Also you don't need to remove the diff to change them. also make sure you put LSD oil in the Diff if its a LSD.
Just finished my rear brakes, recon calipers, recon handbrake actuators, new pads in handbrake and calipers, new discs, bridge pipes and new drive shaft lock nuts (the correct ones not nylocks) total £247.50 inc. vat from Ward engineering in Essex.
Very happy with the result, okay you could do it cheaper diy. but I am just too busy with everything else.

thanks all for your help/advice, main reason for dropping diff is its as rusty as a rusty nail!! and so needs a spruce up also front pinnion seal is leaking and so is the gasket so these are easier to do off car than on.
You wont be able to change the seal unless you remove the nut. Problem with that is that you then lose the correct pre-load on the pinion bearing (set using a crush washer) which means a new crush washer is needed, which means a complete strip down.£129 seems reasonable, I rebuilt my calipers myself, got the pistons from David Manners see earlier thread http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... and then a seal kit was about £15 and about the same for a tin of caliper paint, so just shy of £80 for everything required.
I spoke to big red about stainless pistons, but at the time I spoke to them they couldn't supply them.
Chris.

Ive used Bigred for caliper kits for all sorts of vehicles and they are really helpfull, never had them rebuild anything for me but going by their other services advice and help I would say that they are pretty good.
To be honest, its not rocket science to rebuild them yourself, the only extra you will get is a new bleed nipple and a shiny new outer casing thats easy to paint in go faster red!!!
You can also get them to paint them for you too... simples!
