HI guys, getting ready to meet you al at the fest, I thought I would do some work on the old girl, was a bit bored so re-bushed/re-shocked/re everything to the suspension front and back. Does make a difference. Anyway took her out for a short run to see if all is well, bed brakes in and stuff, ran great, got back, pulled into garage is it was hammering down. Had a cup of coffee, came out, its only now firing on one bank of injectors. The odd numbered bank. For frack sake, WHY?????????????. Have checked everything, resistor pack, wiring, AFM, wiggled this, wiggled that, kicked this kicked that, punched the sh@t out of the ECU, heads gone now. Have done a search and done all that is told to do, no difference........

Now then Mark, long time no hear!

I presume you've decided it's one bank by pulling all the injector connectors off on one side and it made no difference?
It could be an ECU fault from that description; there are only two things that are common to one bank and that's the positive feed from the resistor pack and the connection to the ECU. If you're certain the brown/orange wires are well-connected to the resistor pack and you can measure 12v at the injector connectors (yes, it will be 12v as the impedance of the resistor pack is not enough to drop the voltage as seen by a multimeter) then try unplugging the ECU, switching ignition on and poking a wire between ground and each of the 4 terminals (on the ECU plug) for those injectors. If they click you know they're getting a good feed and return... which leaves the ECU.
If you've kicked seven shades out of it (engine running, if it will) and it doesn't make a blind bit of difference it might have blown one of its two power transistors. I've only seen that fault once. It could still be, say, a soldering-related issue: the quickest way to rule it out is to borrow another ECU and see if it fires-up on all 8.

HI Ian, how you doin fella. Now was it click or a clack ? Yes its only clicking on the odd bank 1/3/5/7. The other side it no works. I can get it to start and run, but albiet a bit higher idle. Have had the ECU checked before when I had all that initial trouble,I know what Zigs been going thru. The whole car has been so reliable up until now. Have got the ECU out and covers off , was looking for something burnt out, but cannot see anything. Had a look on fleabay but no 4cu's, so will post again to see if I can borrow someones ECU. Have not tried 12v at the resistor pack yet as tester is in work. ..........cheers UG

Have been toying with idea of putting my 4cu ecu on eBay with the loom and airflow meter as I don't have a use for it now.

Hi Ian, just done what you suggested and found that pin33-inj3/pin32-inj5/pin31-inj2/pin30-inj4/pin29-inj6 etc all work, with the uasual click. So that side of the system is OK. Will try and beg a borrow of an ECU off someone...cheers UG

Ian, is it in the realms of my soldering skills ( hahahahah!! ) to have a go at repairing my ECU myself. If you would be so kind enough to talk me thru it.

I don't see why not (on either count)... but maybe you could bring it to the 'Fest and we can hang some test gear on it and show the boyos what can go wrong! biggrin

Edit: if you get completely stuck I can pop you a spare ECU in the post; might be tuned for a Rangey or something but it'll prove you're right!

John.
If Mark takes the ECU (and AFM?) then I'll relieve you of the loom...
