If and when I get the engine all back together what's the best way to run the head gasket in. Or can I just hit the whar whar pedal as much as I like straight away? Cheers lads

You may want to run a heat cycle and then check for anything loose or leaking,
But you should not need to run-in just a gasket change.

Last one I did was the day before a race. without any problems.

Dix, you may want to disconnect the ecu & remove the spark plugs, turn the engine over on the starter untill you get good oil pressure before you fire up the beast again.

I used to follow a very simple process hen replacing Ford V6 head gaskets, part of the re-torque sequence was performed with the engine warm and the engine treated fairly gently for the first 500 miles, then re-torque the heads while warm and all should ne good.

1 Tighten to 20 - 30 lb ft

2 Tighten to 50 - 55 lb ft

3 wait 10 to 20 minutes, tighten to 80 - 90 lb ft

4 Start engine and warm up for 15 minutes, retighten to 80 - 90 lb ft hot

5 Drive the car at least 500miles and then retighten to 80 - 90 lb ft hot - don't forget this bit.....

The Manual does state to re-torque the heads after 500 miles but I don't know anybody that does, or know anyone to have a problem, but also the later manuals with the comp. gaskets they don't state it, but that also maybe due to using stretch bolts. but most of the engine builders don't normally put the old style bolts in or use ARP studs.

No run in for head gasket but you can retorque the gasket down if you want once it's cold again.
