Agreed! I did it a few years back, but in a Pontiac Grand Am hire car - which had a completely gutless 2.2 Vauxhall engine and the worst autobox I have ever used... Still a great buzz though and would be great in a Wedge!

I have been to Vegas twice but never drove there, imagine the sight and sound of a wedge roaring up and down. Lovely

In April most years I'm out there exhibiting and make a point of getting tickets for this place just a couple of miles out of town:

Racing in the desert with a USAF base across the road who normally do a fly past with afterburners on at an obscenely low altitude prior to the race meet starting: http://www.lvms.com/strip/multimedia/video/

The Chimp behaves like a monkey on the aptly named Promenade des Anglais in Nice.

I don't think SWMBO was too impressed when I let the Frogs hear what a real car sounds like wink

Drag strips are "OK" but.......... it dont really test a car. I like to see engineering old school like colin chapman did. lighter means quicker cornering and so on! all this blat blat dont make you a good driver does it!

I booked a hemi 300c for my time over there. When we collected they gave me the biggest tub of lard yank tank left in the car park.Quick trip to the airport car hire to change it but didn't get what i wanted.

If you go in August watch out for the sun in Death Valley. On a couple of roads they have signs saying switch off your air con.. I found out that you overheat if you don't

Dix,

I know drag racing or drifting for that matter is not everyone's cup of tea. Was just showing what's out there other than 'the strip' in Vegas.

I think most everyone can come up with an argument for and against most types of motorsport.

Re the blat blat on that video. I think they must of run out of video material as there's much more action in the many different drag classes than those exhibition jet cars.

You could call a car travelling at 200-300mph+ with the rear tyres trying to break away testing biggrin

The top sportsman class engines running 'pump fuel' producing circa 3000 bhp and the fuelers 4000bhp this is also rather testing on parts and technology!

It would be interesting to see how the volumetric efficiency of a top drag engine compares to that of an F1 engine as everything on both is computer controlled these days.

I agree re Chapman. But I think in most forms of motorsport lightness is important for good acceleration and handling. Don't forget Ken Tyrell and his experimenting with oddball ideas. Sir Sterling Moss lives local to me down here.
