If it were mine I would certainly get new ones and fit those.

They are cheap, and the hassle it would be to change them later....

Leave them off. When they break down they can get lodged - one of mine led to cam failure.

I have to agree but the old ones are flexible and it will put the wedge back 2 weeks if i send for new ones and also Adam that could be an issue like you say. My pal says these are ok to fit back in he did the same on his MG so i believe him. Old valve stem seals are going back in heres my fingers crossed.

My V8S didn't have any when I stripped it, valves weren't very coked up with 65k on clock. I have rebuilt it again without seals, oil consumption is fairly low and no problems. Valve guides were very good no wear.
Are we talking about the flat disc type just on the inlet valves? I'm not convinced they do a great deal anyway.

Dix mate, if you don't mind me asking why would a set of valve stem seals put it back by a whole 2 weeks?

They are not a rare part by any stretch of the imagination.

The lad who is putting it all together is going away on Sunday so they would need to be here tomorrow. It's ok though the have been put back in and the heads are getting replaced as I speak. But thanks lads

I see, don't worry the worst that will happen is a bit of smoke on start up after a few days layup.

The seals are probably perfectly serviceable anyway.

It's just nice to do them if you had some to hand as the heads are off anyway.

Given the time restraints it looks like you made the right call.

Good luck with it.

Dave.

V8 Tuner has them in their kits .. and sells them without the head kit.

I would have thought the engine would burn more oil without them too.

My engine has them.

I have to agree. Just replaced mine with the flat disc type and really cant see them doing a right lot.
