Dont know mate..Didnt want to jinx anything but here goes..Ive sent the metering head off for a refurb which is gonna clean me out a bit in hope that going by all the symptoms that this is the fault..Ive got someone to fit it for me on wednesday but ive got this horrible gut feeling that its gonna be the same as it was before it was fitted..So if i get to BBWF i will probably be getting a lift home as i cant be bothered to sort this car..Id rather auction it off and get what i can or burn it..Start again..Save up for a V8 that at least is running and has a fairly decent interior and reasonable paintwork..I know they all have their moments but this one takes the pus.

Mark, you know I want to help you, & I think you already know my feelings on how to find the fault.

Although the evidence is stacking up against it I really hope a new metering head will solve your running problem.

Out of desperation I will give you one last idea to chew over.

You could buy this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/US-PRO-42-PC-FUEL-INJECTION-...

1) Use it in a systematic way

2) Conclusively find the faulty component

3) Replace the confirmed faulty component

4) Sell the kit back on Ebay

The whole exercise will probably cost you £100.00 plus whatever component truly is at fault.

It's another option, & one that will almost certainly be cheaper than guessing.

Remember it could be any of these components:
  • Warm up regulator
  • Primary pressure regulator
  • Thermo timer switch
  • Accumulator
  • Auxiliary air valve
  • Fuel pump
  • Blocked fuel filter
  • Blocked metering head
  • Blocked fuel line (feed or return)
  • Control plunger
  • Control pressure regulators
As you can see there are far too many things to keep guessing unless you have enough dough to replace everything.

Honestly mate, you need to do some proper diagnosis first.

Good luck mate, we need you at BBWF.

Cheers dave..I know ive gone against the grain and acted on impulse but its a gamble i thought i would take..albeit an expensive one..The fact that the fuel pressure is falling away at the return line on the metering head does give way to it being at fault..And i agree its not 100% but if there is a god i hope he can have a little grace and give me an effing break..If there is an animal with more than one heart then thats me as ive lost a few..

I am on your side buddy.

The good news is that although it's guess work, replacing the metering head with one that's been properly and comprehensively refurbished will at least address a number of components all in one go.
  • Control plunger
  • Control pressure regulators
  • Push up valve
  • All fuel path drillings within
Not sure the history of the other metering heads you have tried but (if the new one is properly re-furbed) even if you don't find the fault this way you have at least eliminated a number of potential causes.

We all have our fingers crossed for you mate.

There's another, little-known fault that occurs with those metering heads: the diaphragm between the upper and lower chambers corrodes through, causing system and injector pressures to mix with odd results...
