A 280i with a 4 speed should have a Ford Type E transmission - true? (I was told by a Capri guy it should be a Type 5.) Thanks Grady

Type E it is, at least on US spec '86.

Great! Thanks! (But was secretly hoping it was a 5 speed with the top gear blocked off <grin>).Grady

No, no, no, Grady. Your Capri guy didn't say "T5". He said Type 5, which is an entirely different transmission.

Type E:

My 1986 2.8i Tasmin drivetrain has a Type 5. If yours has a Type E, then somebody at TVR has re-named Type 5's as "Type E" erroneously, or your car has been modified after sale. I don't know which. Nothing in this discussion had anything to do with a T5 5-speed. Where did that notion arise?
