Starter Motor Needed
Discussion
Has anybody got a working starter motor for sale?
Please bring to BBWF if you have. Unfortunately because of the lack of a starter I will be in the van this year.
It is needed for a 1985 390 SE and I can't find one on eBay or the Web that I can be certain will fit. The difference is in the orientation of the solenoid, the bolt holes and the cut-out on the nose.
Once I have one I will be sending the original off to be refurbished - but I want to hold on to it for now for comparison purposes.

Yes but I can't find the post - it was a reply to one of Russ's I'm sure.
You won't want to bother getting the old one reconned after fitting one of these, they are so much better.
As they are smaller too they fit into the space even though the solenoid is in a slightly different place.
Get one and you can have it fitted before BBWF! While you are waiting for delivery loosen the bolts on the old one.
Found the link anyway - http://www.brookwell.co.uk/item/243/replacement-st...

I had a "wosp" high-torque starter fitted a few years ago. Smaller (reasonable clearance from exhaust) and more powerful than the original - well worth considering changing imho.
