Hi Peeps..Just looking for a front wheel bearing kit..Do i need to replace just the side thats gone..How do i check which side it is if there is no play in the wheel..It sounds like a jet is coming in to land on the passenger side but could it be the drivers side?.. How long will it last before the wheel seizes up..Its been like it for about 3 weeks...Cheers..Ziga

If it's gone you should be able to feel it, or try rotating the wheel to see if you can here it.
You may want to just change both anyway.

Always better off doing both at the same time IMHO.

If one has gone the other won't be far behind in my experience.

If you drive it in a straight line, turn to the left and if the noise is less then it will be the passenger side. If you turn to the right it would be louder. (usually)

I did my nearside 2 weeks before the BBWF, must have been cheap ste bearings because it was grumbling again on the way there and back.
Going to order a name brand one this time.

Not all bearing faults show play in them when the car is jacked up, mine doesn't but I can hear it grumbling when driving

Have you tried adjusting them yet, per the book? Whatever you do, do not overtighten them.

I haven't looked at my Bible, but they are Cortina IV/V. Rears are Granada.

Hi Mate..It does say that the front hub and bearings are based on a ford granada MK2 on page 155 of the bible..Cheers..Ziga

If you can't measure the end float about 60 degrees is about right I tried 90 degrees but found this too loose on the racer.

Get them off TVR-CAR-PARTS and they will send you the right ones.

They are granada front (and back with an extra seal ).

Myself experienced that after installation of new bearings I had to re-adjust after a few hundred kilometers and since then all is fine (over 10000km ago).

Cheers for that..When you say an extra seal are you talking about the rubber as there are two bearings and only one seal in most kits..If it is the rubber is it the same as the one supplied..Sorry if its a dumb question but i need to make sure i order what i need..Many Thanks..Ziga

Front has no seals.

It is only the rears and yes the standard rear granada set only comes with one and you would need two on a wedge per side. Nothing standard with TVR, but at least we can get all the parts easily enough. Haven't myself replaced the rears yet, but it seems that it could be a straightforward job or you would need a press to get the old out and new in.

Regarding bearing noise, this is difficult to pin point as the sound transfers throughout the car. Even front or rear, and left or right scratchchin
And the ford front setup needs play, so even an additional parameter into the equation.

With all the jobs you have done I would consider your wedge as an nearly finished non-body of restoration wink

I have to say that whenever I've replaced these front bearings, I've got them from either Ford or a factor, and specified Cortina. Maybe the Granny ones are the same....

They're just SKF Set 8 and Set 1 bearings, the seal is a little harder to find stateside at least.

I've never replaced one - ever. I just clean it up a bit, whack in a bit more grease and bung the nut back on.

I haven't had a problem in 110+60+34 = 204,000 miles of wedging!

If that ratchet spanner is to scale then they are the bearings off a MAN truck!
