Hi

Well after two weeks we can disclose the final figuers for BBWF!

Before I do that I would like to thank every one who came and especially to the people who helped out on the day and night! I will not single out any body except for Adam who help me all the way up to the event and on the day help me set up in the pouring rain with out a second thought as I was some what incapacitated!

We unfortunately lost three traders on the day plus the rolling road due to the poor weather but the Show went on!
The weather improved and we ended up with what was I think a good day, which also went on into the evening with our own "Wedge" Elvis.
On the Sunday there were a lot of sore heads (Those blasted Rustys) so in all, general a great event!

Now the final figuers!

After the end of last year when Adam and myself changed roles I decided that we needed to make certain that the event in the future whom ever takes it on, has a finacally system in place. Which would help them plan and run the event next year, and for future years!
By this I mean that when the people planning for the following year's event had some money avaliable to help pay for items like Hog roast, Mugs etc with out them having to dip into there own pockets like we have the last two years, and properly in the previous years before that!

The first thing we did was set up a Bank account called BBWF which requires at least two signatories on the account before any monies are drawn!

The second part is down to your genoristy on the day and your agreement to what we propose!

The BBWF account after the event now has £503.85 the was due to monies rasied before the event and on the day! (Plus further monies may be raised after the event with the few ideas we have in the pipe line etc!)

We propose to split the moeny by giving £300 to "Help for Heroes" our chosen charity for the event, leaving a balance in the account of £203.85 to help towards the set up cost for next year!

Please if you disagree to this proposal, post up you objections and we will then discuss them on hear etc!

Again thanks you all for your support before and on the day!

Andy.

As someone who runs a Gun Club and a Town Business Association some people dont know the effort and time and money others sometimes have to do, to get events sorted,

So Great Day, Thanks and your suggestion is fine by me

Fine by me too.

we had a great weekend, despite the head gasket!!

great effort by the organisers, good effort from the people who walked around in the rain, and effort to get out of bed the next day.

It's worth pointing out that now the float is established, it won't need to grow, so next year the whole takings can go into the nominated charity.

Also if the BBWF account ever gets closed, the balance can go in there too.

Tank - the funds sound like a good idea.

When you organise something like this - you always seem to be out of pocket
but put it down to the privilege of running the event. Luckily places like Ettington do not actually make a charge for holding the event which is great.

How many wedges attended this year ?

Sounds like a plan to me, if they do send one we could have Mr Tank in a Tank?

I heard the figure of 103 Wedges, maybe someone can confirm?

If you want a Tank at next year's BBWF no problem. I can still get one if need be! Mind you it maybe Jag powered!

Bumpety bump!

Agreed about the time, effort, personal cost, anguish, tears, frustration, organization and long hours required to pull something like this together.

Not sure about the bank account thing though. It all sounds like getting too formal to me. You follow this chain of dominos to its logical conclusion and you end up with the TVRCC and all that entails!

You guys did a great job this year, despite the weather I spent most of Saturday walking about in the rain talking to some great extremely talented people and real enthusiasts - I even spent quite a bit of time eyeing up the pile of rust bits and wires in front of Martin's SEAC project wondering if any of it would be useful for my car hehe

You need more than anything motivated marines to pull this off and as time goes by personal circumstances alter and people drift away and back again and the team managing the event change every couple of years. Nobody actually owns the BBWF and thats the best thing about it.

You could setup a BBWF website, you could setup a printed magazine, you could setup a yearly .PDF magazine that people contribute to and make a donation for, this would all raise monies for things like public insurance, events, promotion etc but then again this will turn the event into a mini TVRCC with treasurers, events committee members, chairmen and all that self important nonsense.

Its best kept as a semi-informal group of enthusiasts getting together once a year for a knees-up. The current organisers of the event have got to realize that the actual people organizing the event will change over the years to come as people come and go and the structure has to be therefore made to cope with that, bank accounts etc will bog this down and has the potential to end up in arguments, costs etc.

The important thing is that people turn up! and you have a steady supply of enthusiastic people willing to put in the extra mile to make it an 'event'.

Hi Mike

I agree to most of what you have posted!

Accept for that fact that to run a event etc, money has to be found.

Now last year running the event cost me over £250 due to a certain sponsor lettngs us down! (That is on top of my personel expenses etc)

Now I am happy to run things but my Bank Manager is not!

So some form of banking needs to be sorted.

The way we have done it is.

Who ever runs it next year can take over the account (Just require new signatories) or the account can be closed and the money paid to charity!

I also sense that you are anti TVRCC.
BBWF is not a TVRCC event and the club accept this (Even though they support it)

So unless there are any more misgivings posted by Monday we will do as proposed!

Hi chaps..Mike you are right in what you say like andy says but as one of the contributors to the charity i must say that it is a non-profitable system where any profit is put towards the next event or given to charity..Money has to be spent on things like food..Memorabillia and other goodies and no-one should be paying for it without at least getting the money back that was initially laid out so a small fund to cover outlay is what is needed..In the same way as the calendars worked the intended BBWF magazine will be produced on a really tight budget paid for or printed ideally by myself and marketed so that i retain any outlay and any profits or donations WILL go to the fund or said charity, It is more of a fun booklet that tells the goings on and the who won what at the event and will contain some useful information as well as traders and stockists..I have a possible deal with one particular company who might donate a small prize towards a crossword competition..Yes it could become a capitalising event with arguements and heads of this and that if profit was the motive but its not..It is about everybody having a fun weekend..I know ive only experienced one event and dont have as many under my belt as i would like but if given the opportunity i would love to do it again and try to make it slightly different each time so that its not the same every year which can become mundane and stagnant..I think everybody had a good time and no complaints were recieved as regards to food or entertainment..I certainly had a great time and feel i made some really nice new friends..
Years ago i stood in hospital with some very close friends of mine while their 15 year old daughter lay there dying from leukemia,Thereafter i decided to give to a charity that gave children who were terminally ill a holiday and a lot of the time it was their last..Yes it was very sad but from that experience i learnt that life is not just about what you can get but what you can give..Sometimes a smile is worth more than the money it cost to get it.
Charities need people who care and i feel the wedge fraternity are exactly that..So thanks to everybody..Ziga
