Wisps of smoke creeping up under the bonnet when first starting it up. Whats this all about? Manifold leak or something...?

Maybe a small oil leak from a rocker cover burning off on start up? I have an exhaust manifold leak at the moment, you can hear it but no visible smoke.

I had a bad earth from the battery to block do the same, the crimped joint was bad.

Do you park outside? I do and i find that after rain you get puddles forming in the battery area, which drip onto the exahaust manifolds when i first move the car, which also gives little plumes of steam.

Its always garaged, so oil leak sounds the likely culprit. Bit worrying though. Made wonder about buying a fire extuingusher today (as I thought about all the flamable bits of my car, particulary the body!!). The strong petrol fumes on a wedge don't help either.

Thanks chaps.

please buy a fire extingisher only cost about £12 and sits nicely between seats, scares the passengers when they see it though.... it probably is oil leaking from rocker covers onto manifold, only cost a couple of quid each dead easy to do as well.. hope this helps

I had a small leak from the rear near side rocker cover gasket, it drips very slowly onto the exhaust. As it is so slow you only notice it when you haven't driven the car for several days and only on start up. Either tighten it down or re-seat the gasket.
