Has anyone ever looked into what's out there and will actually fit a wedge V8?

I'm told a Chim / Griff starter will not fit the wedge?

This looks beautiful but the price - ouch frown

Just come across this beauty:

http://www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk/product/770/...

It looks like there are at least a couple of starter types for the RV8, with the solenoid either horizontally mounted or below.

I can get other V8 all alloy mini starters in the US for under $100 USD, but the Buick 215ci is expensive.

I have the powerlite one fitted to my 400. Changed it when I replaced the manifolds. Does give better clearance, and sounds good too!

Adam,

I know stock replacements are cheap enough.

I was just looking to afford some clearance while possibly reducing a little weight and spinning the old girl over faster (gear reduction model).

My reasoning is that I'd like a little more space around the engine as I'm considering have a custom set of tuned headers made up. As you know the stock ones, even on my SEAC are not equal length.

AM400,

No name in your profile!

Did you purchase the very same Powerlite as in my earlier link? It certainly look twee.

Phil, the Prestolite one is in fact much smaller than the original, so you will get a centimetre or so extra clearance from the exhaust, and turns the engine over very quickly too.

Dont hate me for this but i once had a TR7 with a rover V8 in it and it had a smaller starter motor fitted, i cant remember the make but it was noticibly smaller, lighter and was supposed to turn it over quicker as well which it did.I think some of the V8 mgb's had similar thing available so it can be done and works.

Does anyone have a 'Prestolite' part number by chance?

I cannot find anything on the web - maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.

There's normally something with TVR350 etc.

Hi Adam,

All I can find on the Prestolite is what looks like a slightly more compact version of the original which I think is what you stated above.

I think I'll go for the Powerlite.

Andrew,

When you bolt it up does it offer you more space between it and the exhaust or is it the same width but shorter compared to the original?

Thanks.

Hi Phil - it's the same width but shorter. When I took my old one out I re-routed and changed all the wiring so it was well away from the manifold. It's a good replacement considering the cost. Ive seen others for silly money in comparison and it's also made by Prestolite which is a good firm.
