I had a disaster with my brake master cylinder today in that the thread housing cracked and fell away after I got it back from getting it refurbed. I will deal with them as a side issue. However, when looking for a replacement there seems to be a popular upgrade by Capri owners sticking on a Landrover 90 brake master cylinder with a 2.0 Capri servo - it seems a cheaper option that provides more pedal feel etc - has anyone on here gone down this route who could provide some feedback on the pros & cons etc?

Thanks for that Blaine - a couple of questions:

1. What was the reason for rotating the servo 180*

2. I've got flexible brake lines - will they go straight on or is there a need for a y piece as described by the capri lads?

3 You still got any pics of the mod if any?

Thanks

Andy

need to rotate to stop vacume take off hitting the master cylinder, yes you will need a y piece, or you can get a splitter to go onto the master cylinder, you won't need to change your pipe work, i have no pics, but it doesn't look any different to standard

Last questions Blaine: What is the y piece and where does it go, where can I get one?

Thanks

Andy

A master cylinder from a 280 capri also fits directly onto the existing servo. Part no one digit out. See a previous entry by Johhnie Weggie

I ran a short length of pipe from the master cylinder then teed that to give the 2 front brake lines you need on a wedge, or you can get an adaptor to go on the master cylinder to give 2 outlets from the 1 hole the land rover ones have.

If you're using flexibles, can't you use a double-length banjo bolt and stack the unions together? Or is there no such thing as a banjo with that thread...? scratchchin

What age of landrover 90 can you use the master cylinder from...
Im asuming the original servo needed rotating due to the bolt patern or is there some thing else.

I gess the landy master is larger boar and gives a better pedal feel..

I've ordered a new OE brake master cylinder - land rover spec with a 25mm Bore. I'm not confident in the ones being sold by reputable TVR people - I was sold a Girling spec for a 350i, the firm who sold it told me it was brand new suffice to say that it wasn't and it was duly returned.

You cannot get new girling types any more and the ones being sold are generally pattern parts which are severely over priced IMO if you want the 22mm bore as per the Girling spec fitted to our cars.

I'm gutted because I spent a hefty amount of money getting my old cylinder cleaned, re-sleeved with new seals atc and then it cracked and fell apart!!

I'll keep y'all posted on my new mod - many thanks to Blaine for confirming the route many Capri men have gone when upgrading their brakes after dropping in RV8s...
