Sorry but! Vauxhall Zafira, Has been tight as a drum since i bought it. Parked it up with a little rattle that i took no notice of, woke up in the morning and drove it 500miles to legoland and back. Motorway miles are great no problem. But now it has developed a shake/rattle/no idea what through the steering column that makes it feel like an old knacker. It now feels like the shockers dont do their job anymore its turned a lovely drive into a horrible drive? any ideas lads. By the way i have checked all UJ's in the columnn, all suspension parts, all torsion bars and all components in the steering wheel bush housing!! the only thing i have found is the flexi on the exhaust moves back and forward but dosnt blow too bad and the rear silencer vibrates alot cause i believe the baffles have gone.

Took it to three good mechanics i know and they all say its ok.
Its isnt like it feels horrible to drive!
How can a car go from a good drive to an insult!

Please help!!

Checked all that Jeff its a vibration through the steering wheel. I can even feel it when I first start the engine up and not moving that directs me away from wheels etc.

Broken or loose engine / gearbox mounting?

Any weird clutch issues to go with this - dual mass flywheel on its way out?

Putting it over a pit in about half an hour lads i am starting to belive its a mounting but no clutch issues i can feel the vibration on both brake and clutch pedals every now and then. Heres my fingers crossed. Who is that bloke in the Zafira Campbel he looks like the front half of a pick axe?

Well found out what it was when we detached the collumn from the rack at the bulkhead. Quite a few tiny bearings hit me on the head. Seen as we were right next to a vauxhall dealer i thought what the hell here goes. "Can i have a lower steering collumn bearing for my car please" after i had told here the reg number she invited me to have a look at an exploded diagram of the collumn and guess what? No bearing on the diagram and yes you have guessed it "you have to buy the full collumn". "££££££££££Go on then i said how much££££££££££££££££££" Laughable really £330 + VAT and she had the cheek to advise me to change the UJ which she informed me was another £90 + VAT i nearly fell over laughing. I went home and booted up the bay. 2nd hand one purchased for £26.75 including VAT and postage!!!Tthese dealers should be closed down FFS.

Dealers aren't always too bad.
Last week I fitted a set of front discs and pads to a 2004 BMW 330I.
I was quoted a trade price of £159 for Bosch parts froma alocal factor, but ended up buying from BMW at a retail price of £152!

But yeah, main dealers do mostly suck!

Low power steering fluid?
You'll feel it even if not moving, or maybe pump going/gone.

if fluid just low, top up..........and delete threadsmile)

ETA Just realised mechs had checked the car, so probably isn't a power steering problem, they would have jumped on that straight away.
