I'm doing a bit of work on Dave_M's wedge (1984 350i)

There is a diode at the top of the fusebox with terminals pushed into a fuse position - whats it for? It's cremated on Dave's car so I'll go get one from Maplin - but if it goes again what does it supply?

Secondly there's a red relay housing but it has a small circuit board inside with 3 diodes and a resistor - whats that for?

The remainder of the relays seem iffy at best (I know one of them is double pole) so I've ordered replacements, they are so cheap it seems stupid to endlessly muck about working out which ones are good and which aren't.

I've got one headlight not popping up (nearside) although it did work when Dave brought the car over so presumably a wiring issue with those crappy connectors at the front?

The sidelights didn't work at all when he brought the car - now they do irked
The brakes were terrifying as well although we'll gloss over that one Dave.
(New Master cylinder fitted now they are back to standard plain scary eek)

I've ordered the Steve Heath book from TVRCC so hopefully that will also help, but any wisdom gratefully received on the electrics. (I am comfortable with electric trickery)

Chris

The diode is for the lights to not pop up when you flash if you don't have the lights on etc.
The red box is a steering module for the fuel pump.

Excuse my ignorance but I've often wondered this, what has a 'steering module 'got to do with a fuel pump and how does it work? I assume there's no steering involved!
John.

I think it maybe spelled different, and I'm not 100% sure how it works. I just know it's different and has something to do with the fuel pump, and should not be changed for a standard relay. but saying that I don't have one on my flapper 400SE.
