Yo!

According to the bible earlier wedges had their headlamp pods raise whenever the driver flashed main beam.

Then later cars fitted with driving lamps had those flash and the pods did not raise.

Then the regs changed on 1988 apparently and the pods raised again if the driver flashed.

So i'm very curious.................

My 450 was registered in 1989 and the pods do not raise if I flash main beam: should they?

And.............if not how difficult would it be to wire them up so they do?

mine is 1989 and the pods don't rise, just the drving lamps flash. Personally I wouldn't want them to.

My 350i is 1989 and the headlamps also don't raise when 'flashing'.

I wouldn't want them to either, not exactly the most elegant way of alerting yourself to someone, one headlamp, then maybe the other, then one back down, and hopefully the other! Clunk, clunk, clunk, clunk! hehe

Mine do!!.. wink..Mind you if you flash too quick then one pod stays up and you have to turn your lights on and off to reset them...

I beleive mine do....
Anyone have any idea on how slow two Wedges would have to be going to successfully flash each other.

Note. Corvette owners in the US wave because most have pop ups.
(Which of course can be a bit of a chore on a sunny Sundaybiggrin)

My '83 Series 1 did and my '89 Series 2 doesn't. I got caught out on my last MOT because I didn't have the side repeaters connected.

However, I would like to wire my pods to keep them down when I want the side lights on - just need to work which wire to disconnect....

91 450SE they dont and never did- imagine the extra fuel all that flashing would use if the air brakes light pods went up every time!
Not to mention the carnage you do to our dwindling poulation of bees n all small flyie type animals

Well jeff all i know is when i was slowing to flash someone through a turning they had turned..Waved a thank you and were gone as my pods were actually at flash point..By the time they dropped again i was 10 yards away from the initial stop point..So i guess even coming to a stop isnt slow enough..I should imagine that if they waited for you to actually flash before moving then people behind would be under the impression that you had broken down..hehe

My 1985 390 headlight pods would raise when using the flash but not on my 1988 350i. On the latter I would have to dive for the small paddle on the steering column on the very rare occasion of spotting another wedge (for a full lamp raise). For the Tuscan , Cerby, Chimp, Griff fraternity I would simply pull on my stalk.

My 1988 SEAC dosent lift the pods to flash the main light but the lihts still come on and fill the housing with liht that can be seen from the bottom air intakes plus the spots come on too.
I would like to have the lights sorted so that when switched to sides the pods stay down and only come up on dip.
I have tried removing the diods in different orders and got strange results but not the one i was looking for...
