I guess you've all seen this carbon fibre plenum chamber top for Rover V8 on Ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2481497814&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT

I just acquired an alloy plenum chamber for £37.00 (incl P&P) for and a pair of (already prepared) rocker covers for £40.00 for detailing.

At £229.00 with 16 hours to go, it looks like sylvette55 is pretty determined. Me, I'll stick with my alloy top and take it to the powder-coaters for some nice coloured lines. I've been told it's not a good idea to powder-coat the entire top as the heat will rise considerably inside as the powder-coating acts as an insulating jacket

Anyway, I've got to do something to brighten up the underbonnet area ... the downside of a black car - Streaky

The plenum chamber or the underbonnet area?

Spoke nicely to my charlady but she refuses to vacuum and use the Pl3dg3 under the bonnet

I think that rev was thinking more along the lines of using a mechanical sander to produce a mirror finish.

All you have to do is use a 320 grit lea mop with tallow, then polish up with a polishing mop with plenty of polish.
Then it will look like my rocker covers

What! On the underbonnet area? You've got to be joking! (I am! )

The r/cs are supposed to be ready bead-blasted, so a polish up with the various mops and compounds I have already should be an easy job. Then I can decide whether to have them powder-coated except for the ribs. Then a chrome flame-trap or a p-c'd one ... I can't decide. A TVR oil filler cap would then finish it off.

I'll polish up the p/c too and decide whether to have the "grooves" p-c'd too.

Volume , better shape, throttles in better position, looks, (if i may say so myself) assuming thats important to you.
Sales pitch over, they are only beneficial if the engine needs more air , basically a standard 3.5 wouldn't achieve any extra bhp.

How strong are they - strong enough to take a couple of bar boost from my Eaton ;^)

They would take over a 100 psi, after all they do now make fire extinguishers out of carbon fibre which hold over 1000 psi, the problem is sealing it to the trumpet base, i have done a couple of turbo specials with reinforced flange, but i would stick with the alloy one for turbo application.
