I seem to get a lot of clatter and movement through the gearlever when i drive over bad bumps and lumps in the road.

Would this suggest i need to look at my gearbox mounts?

I already know my exhaust knocks on the chassis just as it passes the gearbox if that helps?

Jim just having my gearbox mounts renewed - word to the wise not an economy fix as the mounts are Monopoly money! But having seen the state of them it explained a lot of the unauthorised gearbox on exhaust pipe action!

There should be a poly alternative but I do know any leakage of oil ruins the originals - I've just fitted poly bushes for my centre box mounts and they work a treat.

Apart from the gearshift extension mounts, the gearbox itself sits on the chassis on two 'bobbin' type mounts; these perish with age but are also attacked by stray gearbox oil which dissolves them! Once the mounts disintegrate, the torque reaction of the drivetrain can make the engine and 'box as a whole twist fore and aft on the engine mountings, lifting the gearbox off its bobbins... probably also causing exhaust clatterings and so on. I found my car's bobbins were shot when I took the engine and gearbox out - and that was 10 years ago.

I mist have quite a few of those bobbin mounts because over the years I have got through a few boxes and the secondhand ones have quite often had them on. I shall add them to the parts hoards list ;^)

Replaced mine recently. They were only around £20 took me about half an hour.
The originals were like marshmallows, it really tightend the box up. I also replaced the linkage bushes with poly ones whilst under there.

I found they are the same size as the shock-absorbing mounts on the handles of certain equipment of which we had piles lying around at work...whistle

Andy do you happen to have the part no`s?
As I have been quoted a lot, lot, lot, more than £20!
And could do with a cheaper alternative

Ah right. There are other on-line suppliers though. Sixteen quid a pop is a bit steep IMHO from that Ebay seller. I don't need any for work or I could whistle add a few onto an order... maybe you could get a group-buy going?

Changed mine with the wedge on axle stands. With a pit or it up in the air, it is probably a bit easier. Hardest were the bolts into the rear of the gearbox.

Hi Steve,

No part numbers but they are the same as the ebay link posted on this thread. I got mine from Ebay and I think it was this seller. You can definately get them for a lot less than you have been quoted.
