I am new to the forum and just purchased an 84 Tasmin 280i that I moved to the USA. This is my first TVR, as the rest of my collection is all Lotus.

Here is my question: As part of prepping the car as the new owner, I wanted to replace the 5-spd gearbox lube. I found the fill plug on the side of the housing. However, when I searched for a drain plug, all I found was a boss at the bottom of the gearbox housing that looks like it should have been tapped for a drain plug, but was not.

Am I looking in the wrong place? I checked the TVR 280i parts list book to see if they called out a drain plug. The book clearly showed a drain plug on the 4-spd gearbox drawing & parts list, but did not show one on the 5-spd drawing or list.

As such, what is the process for draining and replacing the lube in teh 5-spd gearbox?

There is no drain plug on the 5 speed box. You will need to either pump it out from the filler hole, or, take the box off and drain it out the output shaft (I would use a pump).

If you change the oil ensure you use the correct Ford spec. otherwise the box will likely die young!
