I HAVE JUST STARTED STRIPPING OUT THE CENTRE CONSOLE ON MY 1983 COUPE AND IT WOULD APPEAR THE LAST OWNER HAS PAINTED OVER THE HEATER AND RADIO COVER PLATE WITH BLACK PAINT.SO WHERE THERE SHOULD BE ANY WRITING FOR THE HEATER CONTROL DIRECTIONS THERES NOTHING,A FAINT TRIANGLE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT OF THE LEVER SLOTS CAN JUST BE SEEN.REMOVING A LITTLE PAINT SHOWS HOT TO THE LEFT AND COLD TO THE RIGHT .CAN ANYONE SHOW ME A CLEAR PHOTO OF THIS ITEM AS IT SHOULD LOOK OR DOES ANYONE HAVE A SPARE ONE KNOCKING ABOUT.TRYING TO REPRODUCE THIS MAY BE A TRICKY. ON ANOTHER SUBJECT, IT WOULD SEEM THAT MY CAR DOES NOT HAVE A COOLING SYSTEM RESAVOIR JUST A RADIATOR IS THIS NORMAL FOR AN 82 MODEL OR HAS IT BEEN REMOVED.

Ref header tank, early cars didn't have a header tank. Just the old rad with a presure cap on it!

Hi Karl

The 2+2 IS A STRANGE BEAST!

When they first started making them they would have been in the series 1 era, but, because they are TVR's all of the FHC 2+2 had the series 2 body, irrelevant of build date.
This confused the hell out of me for months!!!

Also, as Gralin has said, the electrics will all be on the drivers side front wing unless its had a rewire and there is no expansion tank at all, just the granada rad.

the plate which has I think been cut out to accomadate a cd player other than that it the same.some switches that dont seem to have any purpose.the fist two are in centre console next to electric window switch. the next one is spring loaded and under drivers side dash next to console and the last one chrome toggle swich could be ignition cutoff or something.

I think you are still confused! biggrin

The FHC 2+2 body was originaly made just for 2+2 but the look was so much better than the original FHC. TVR decided to keep it for all the future FHC's and called it a series 2 FHC!

Matter of opinion as to whether it looked better. Certainly it did lengthen the rear of the car to help offset the long overhang in front of the front wheels, but production rationalisation would have decreed changing the whole range rather than have differing styles. I wonder if it was the introduction of the DHC that initially sparked the restyle as the sloped rear face of the bootlid rather set the tone for the tilt they applied to the rear glass panel.

Strangely, some of TVRs last models went back to a 'chopped-off' tail treatment, harking back not only to the S1 Tasmin but also the Grantura et al.
