UJs cost me under £10 each from my local motor factors, Wedges have a couple of different sizes so you need to measure them. Three of mine were changed relatively easily and one was a complete PITA as someone had given it a good clout and distorted the housing, probably to get it through an MOT. I did mine with the drive shafts off the car so you have to factor that in as well.

I used part number GKN 18196 which are the heavy duty type, with grease nipples but measure yours first before ordering them, there are various sizes.

I'm pretty sure you guys use same/similar UJs to the ones on our Triumphs.

The link below gives a very good guide to making changing them easy.

Setting drive shaft joints nice and tight will probably apply on Wedges too.

Once I started doing them this way it has been a breeze.

Hardest part is getting the old ones out without a proper press but if you have access to a press they're just time consuming. If you don't you can always just remove 'em and take them to a shop which will save you a bit on the labor of r&r

Hi Ziga

Just done mine but your going to need a press and a realy good 4" to 6" vice to remove the old caps as they done come out totaly and i realy dought your could do them on the car, if they are fked its best to have them fixed proberly.
I think i got al new joints from Tvr Car Parts.
I know you arnt made of money and need more girls licking stamps but would it mor be best to get the garrage to do the bushes any way as agread then have the drive shaft UJ's done too...

It will have a difference to the way your car feels on the road.

Cheers guys..Apparently they are that bad that they are causing a lot of movement to the rear..Perhaps its best if they are done by someone who knows what they are doing..I was quoted around £30 each for mine + Vat..Does that sound expensive?..Cheers..Ziga

Mark

Get them done ASAP!

If the cars still with Dan get him to do it, or take it back to him!

While he doing it get him to give the car a complete check over so you know what will need doing now rather than it biting you in the bum at a later date!

Hi Andy..Yes the car is still with him as he doesnt really want to let it go out in the state it is in..It would explain why the rear end fishtails if i go over a bump and there was some vibration on pulling away..It was more scary on a motorway doing 70+ and hitting a tiny pothole..He is doing the UJs..The engine mounts..And the trailing arm pin and mount..The ford guy only done one even though i supplied two..He said the bolt was stuck in?..Why didnt he cut it out then?...I think certain jobs need to be done by a TVR garage as they have every tool you could need and know the exact proceedure of tackling these jobs..Its just costing more than i was quoted..Better get some more envelopes in..Ok girls..You get licky licky..No licky..No pay..hehe

But on a serious note my back is killing me as ive been helping a mate install a couple of central heating systems..The pot was half full and is now nearly empty...Cheers..Ziga

30 each for just the labour or the parts included?

Make sure you get ones with grease nipples on. The non-nipple ones are not worth putting on because you will be doing them again.

I pay around £15-£17 for my UJ's. You can do the outers on the car, if you have a decent club hammer.

Outrageous - £17 is not even trade, he should be able to get them for £10-12.

What tools would you need - a club hammer (6 quid?), circlip pliers (£5), a socket set, jack, axle stand (you probably already have). A grease gun and some grease (another tenner) but you'll need this in the long run anyway.

Hi Mate..He is not charging that much to do just the UJs..He is doing the engine mounts..The UJs x 4..(Serviceable ones)..One trailing pin and bush and the 4 wheel geo..I have asked if he can do something with the VAT on the labour but will have to wait and see..It does sound a bit expensive but then i dont know what is involved..Cheers..Ziga
