When I replace my springs on the 450 should I make sure i put in some rubber spring seats? Will these help to cushion the ride and do i need them front and back, top and bottom?

Spring seats, if you mean the rubber ones at the front....
These are only used at the front and bottom of the spring. Fairly difficult to get hold of.

These seats used by TVR were used at the back by ford on the cortina, not at the front!
I still use the rubber seats at the front, but would try to not use them if I cannot get them when perished the next time. Ford didn't use them like that, so think the only influence would be overall length and not to keep the springs in position. From this logic the front lower wishbone is able to hold the spring in place when used on a cortina, so why not on a wedge? Not speaking from experience, but don't think it would be an issue. Perhaps the people racing Tasmins and not having converted the front suspension/spring setup could help us with this topic. I am all ears

Well i started on the springs last night. Got the rear nearside spring and damper off. No spring seat so i gueass that's how it should be as the damper is new, fitted by previous owner.

Must say the top damper nuts were a pig...............until i found the correct spanner biggrin

I agree with Rob here. no one has been able to give me a reason why TVR used the rear cortina rubber rings on the front of the wedge..? the only reason i could imagine is to reduce road noise in the relative quiet of the Cortina rear seats, but in the front of a noisy wedge??!
I did manage to get two NOS rubber pads from Newford Parts (classic ford spares) a few years ago but i think they were the last two..
Suffice to say, they're not essential!!

Coming up to MOT time again having a look over the front end and my spring rubber has split (bottom of spring), is there any further development on this thread, ie should I remove the rubber, or did it not work????

I ended up keeping the old ones which whilst not brilliant were in one piece.....just.

Started driving the car last month and no problems.

I was approached with one of the former employees at the BNG,Blackpool. He explained that when the chassis was checked before assembly it was found to have a slight twist by 2-3mm or so therefor the rubber seating on the offside was thicker to compensate.
I can't say i noticed the difference when i replaced the springs with the rubber mounts.
