How many different styles of spoilers were used on the 400SE. I've got the droopy ended one and there's the Seac one. Any more.? I seem to remember seeing a low line one that curved towards the front of the car, sort of Porker 944 style. Any ideas guys?

As far as I know there was only the one spoiler used on the 400se and that's the one in the picture if you click on my name. Various different spoilers were used on the Wedges though, depending on the model. For example the 390se had a different spoiler to the series one 350i and a different one on the series two etc.

What's the roof up for? I thought it was only Chimps and Griffs that did this

That's the one I was thinking of! Looks good. Was it made specifically at the time for the Wedge or available in different sizes. Anyone know whether they can still be bought, or even got one hiding in a corner somewhere?

THanks for all your replies

Well why didn't you say boot spoiler? rolleyeswink

That's the Zender spoiler, made of a hard foam and bolted to the bootlid. Word once was that either Zender stopped making them or TVR thought they were too expensive so there was a mould taken and replicas were made in GRP (minus the moulded-in Zender logo) - but I've never seen one or met anyone who has. All those I've studied at 'Fests have been the genuine, slightly squidgy article.
It's conceivable that they were a generic aftermarket thing (someone did once claim on here that his Ford Orion had one) - after all, how many could TVR have realistically expected to take - but it's a hell of a coincidence that the curve at the back lower edge matches the bootlid corner and there's a cutaway each side that happens to line up with the join line between boot and wing.
If there are any left, TVRcarparts might know of them - and maybe if there was a mould, they have it?

I too thought you were asking about the front spoiler, that's why I said there is only the one type on the 400se. Now I realise you meant the 'rear' spoiler. I was wandering why everyone was sending in photos of the back of their cars. I don't know much about the rear spoilers, only that there were several types and some after market.
Tony.

Doh, I suppose the clue might have been in the 'droopy ended one' reference in the first post... bangheadhehe

...although I think the correct term for that spoiler is 'the plank' hehe

The Zender spoiler was an aftermarket offering, not sure if it was made specifically for TVR or indeed if TVR had anything to do with it at all. I do know that when I inquired about getting one for my 350 in 1987 they had already been discontinued so they will be very rare these days.

Yes, aftermarket, specifically made for TVR.

There was one boot spoiler for the SE, one for the SE AC and one common aftermarket one: the Zender.

I suppose that technically there was a third factory boot spoiler although AFAIK only one was ever made and fitted to the 660 SE AC.

Yes ok, I should have been more specific! Glad we're talking about the same thing now.

I don't dislike the droopy one, nothing personal hehe But the shape doesn't exactly flow with the body style. The 'Zender' one is better imho. But doesn't sound like there'll be many about. If anyone knows of one lurking in the shadows of someone's shed somewhere? Or dare I say, would even like to swap??? please let me know ears
