Wedge Education (Wedgeucation!)

Once again it’s that time of year when the weather is turning chilly, we are heading for the winter and the festive season is fast approaching. All our Wedges are safely tucked away in the garage, hibernating during the winter season. The long summer days of fettling on the Wedge is over and we will be spending more time with her indoors and the kids. It’s the time of year where the family takes priority and the Wedge is a distant memory. Well gentlemen, it doesn’t have to be. We must now take up this opportunity to improve our Wedgeucation. The practical aspect of our Wedges has been put aside for now, but we must take up the theoretical aspect. I have noticed on this forum that so many Wedge owners have a burning desire to learn. So, how can we achieve this you might ask? Do we buy a book? Take up Open University? No! We learn simply by communication. Let’s face it, there are some members of this forum that don’t know the front end of their Wedge to the back, and there are others who can totally rebuild a Wedge with their eyes shut. So what am I getting at? Well, we need to balance out the two groups. Here are some suggestions as to how I think this may be achieved.

1. Regular boy’s night out meetings in a nice pub. (area groups) ?
2. One topic each week to discus on the forum and in the pub ?
3. Arrange entertainment venue outings. (makes learning fun) ?
4. Discuss topics over dinner in a nice restaurant. (area groups) ?
5. Trips abroad maybe ? Amsterdam ?

Any other suggestions ?

So, let’s have some ideas gentlemen as to how we can improve our knowledge about the Wedge, and come the summer we’ll be prepared for anything our Wedges may throw at us. There will be no more surprises. No more expensive mechanics. As soon as our Wedge packs up, we’ll know exactly what’s wrong with it and how to put it right! Right?

Tony.

Question... do men realy go out togeather to a nice restaurant for dinner, not to sure any one would north of the border would be doing that unless they were batting for the other side.
As for getting togeather in a pub, well that will be easy for the wedgers that live near one another.
Could we not have a pub thread on hear and only post in pub opening times or some thing.
Still not a bad idea...

hey Tony, it sounds like you live in xmas chocolate box land. cool

This time of year is no different to me than any other time of year, apart from being colder. The Tiv will get used as and when, it will get fixed and fiddled with as and when. Some let their cars hibernate, some don't.
For the most part, I think wedgers live too far apart to organise a night out or something like. Besides that, that's what this forum is all about, passing on information of fixes and faults. Nice idea, but then again most regions already have their monthly meetings open to all Tivs

I don't think it's such a crazy idea - if you can get enough people near enough together to come along. As you live in London it would probably be fairly easy to get some southern wedgers to come along to a winter meet.

For my part the wedge doesn't hibernate, I just wear a thicker jacket and turn up the heater ;^)

Yes I agree a pub meet and twelvety beers would be more manly but in these days of breathalysers a meal and a beer is probably more sensible.

Ah ha..Thats why mine is so slow..rolleyes..Ive been reversing it everywhere..I thought it was a rear engined car?..I suppose the clue was the twin reversing lights that would only work at night..(headlights).. hehe

In truth its not a bad suggestion..If you look at the majority of the questions asked on the forum they do repeat themselves quite often so maybe pick certain subjects from it and keep a documented response..Once i get round to doing it the BBWF mag will have a wedge check list that has a rough guide to the service checks you would make to any car, Then the periodical checks that the wedge needs..Please add anything you feel i have missed..Hopefully i will include the mag..(paperback) in with the calendar set nearer christmas..Cheers..Ziga

Couple of things here, before you go to print.

1. Please have your info checked, as to be honest (As usual putting my foot in it) your real knowledge of "wedges" comes from one particular book which is not the most idea situation as it's not a good book! Plus you own basic knowledge (Which you said youself) is not good!

2. Who said you can use my car nono for this (Above pic is my car) I want a % of the profits! biglaugh

Hi Andy..I have circulated the info to some well knowledged individuals who know wedges pretty well..Some of the info was taken from the forum ..ie: After a spate of hub nut incidences..And some of it is stuff that does need a periodical check especially if the car is used more frequent..I wouldnt put information up that would be in-accurate or inferior and did do some research before hand..I used that pic of yours as it was a prime example of an exceptionally clean engine bay..But if you feel that i shouldnt use it..Im sure i could get another picture..rolleyes..Beer tokens are more valid than royalties by the way..You know id buy you a beer...biggrin..Ziga

I appreciate what you say but mistakes can happen! So please get your info double checked just before you print. It makes sense and an error found before printing is better than having the p_ _s made after!

I have no problem, with you using a pic of my car from BBWF 2009, but it would be nice to have been asked. (O! that's at least a pint at BBWF)
I would also suggest that you do this with any other cars you also intend to use. Just stops any problems!

Andy
