RV8 into 200 does go
Discussion
I was interested to see that one of the pair of project 200's on e-bay at the moment has a RV8 in it.
I've been wondering if one would fit in mine, so that's it confirmed, it fits! Hmmm, time to look for scrapped manual Discoveries!
Here's the link if anyone wants two Tasmins.

From my understanding, all the factory V8 wedges had a much modified chassis, as the frame will not accept a V8.
Also, if you chose a manual Discovery as a donor, the gearbox would be no good, as it's output is splined to mate with a 4wd transfer box.
A 200 is a really rare car. Would be a shame to lose that. If I WAS to mod it, why not stick a YB Cossie in it? Same block as the pinto and easily as much power as an RV8?

Check out the chassis plates. They were both 200's originally.
Thanks for the discovery info. My car had the pinto ripped out long ago and replaced with a V6 by a previous owner. I'l torn what to do with it i.e keep it as it is, stick a V8 in it or put it back to original becasue as you say it was one of sixteen.

my mistake only read the ad did not look at all the pics why not fit a 2.0 zetec on throttle bodys not as heavy as v6 and proberly more power or 2.0 with mini cooper s supercharger my son has fitted one of these superchargers to his car and has gone from 153bhp to over 200bhp

I think the ones for the mini are the Eaton M45 supercharger that i was looking at for 2.0ltr-3.0ltr engines..I think it might be the way to go...Ziga

Yes the V8 chassis was wider, but you can fit a Rv8 into a S1 Chassis, just just can't fit the manifolds in the normal ways, and have to run then Griff/Style style and remove a little bit of the body that sits on the chassis, so the manifolds can run along the top the the chassis. Also, if you chose a manual Discovery as a donor, the gearbox would be no good, as it's output is splined to mate with a 4wd transfer box.

Also your need to weld on some custom chassis to engine mounts.

They may have both been 200's but the V8 on is a 84 car so would have had the later wider chassis, the same as the 350iThanks for the discovery info. Are you sure you can fit an RV8 into a series 1 ? I've measured several times 'cos I want to go V8, and I can't see how it fits. Now I'm in NZ, I did think about a Holden 3.8 V6, which are Buick V6, or an RV8 with two cyls less, and I'm very depressed to see the Holden won't go in that I can see....
haven't had chance to measure a true SBF (302). Anyone know how wide they are ?

Well I've been racing a S1 with a Rv8 for the past 3 years, using a S1 chassis, with all orignal chassis tubes.haven't had chance to measure a true SBF (302). Anyone know how wide they are ?
It's not a easy mod, but it fit's fine.

I can only say that's VERY impressive.... I see quite a few other mods at the front too...Drool...
(sorry, haven't read that thread before, and new to forum...)
I'll be stealing a lot of pics from here....
So perhaps my Holden V6 project might be doable after all.
(Yeah I know, V8's are best...., but have a look at the Holden Commodore options, a Supercharged 3.8 V6 was a std option .... and I have a T5 'box with the 3.8 engine. Even the std 3.8 gives more torque than the 350i, and it's economical too.)

A 302 does indeed fit in a series one. It's all been done before....http://rides.webshots.com/album/164871759vbyNUC

Ive been dribbling over the Holden V6 3.8 supercharged option..Especially when you look at the price in aussie dollars..Its flamin mental mate..Well worth looking into..
Hey didn't UK get the 5 litre Holden Commodore HSV badged as an Opel Senator something ??They have an Aussie version of the LS1 engine in them.
Yeah - the Holden 3.8 is really common here, lots of parts, decent Efi system, and bags and bags of low down torque. The supercharged version produces more BHP and torque than the standard 5L V8 (but not the HSV or LS1 engines !). 302s are still around too, but hard to find a manual gbox for them at reasonable price.

..What a beatiful sight!!.."Your lucky you dont live near me cos you would wake up one morning and see me and your engine eloping to gretna green"...
...
PS:I still kick myself as your car was one of the ones i really wanted to look at at BBWF and didnt..

Zig with a V8 and supercharger, all the problems we would keep hearing about and being posted up!

Now come on Zig you can't afford the set up you have now so stop dreaming and get your trim sorted!
Or better still buy a lottery ticket so hopefully you win and can get your car sorted!

......could certainly see Zig's post count going up a bit with this set up!The engine pic is quite an old one, no MAF unit now due to running an Emerald Ecu, plus a few changes to the 'plumbing'.
Slotting a V8 in is certainly possible, but to be honest, it would be far cheaper and easier to buy a genuine V8 engined Wedge in the first place.....unless you fancy a challange!
Well if i won the lottery i would have a one off wedge..(Amoungst other supercars)..that would blow any other wedge out of existence..The white elephant..The 660..For a start it would have a 9 litre supercharged engine with outrageous spec..Modified body to house the split and widened rims..(24" wide)..Brakes custom built by brembo..Ceramic discs..super drag power prop and driveshafts..A 5" straight through exhaust system..Chinchilla carpet..Hand picked steeds for the leather..Platinum switches..Gold wiring..Ebony dash with fossil hand made gauges and a diamond on each of the needles..And a paint job that changes to any colour at the flick of a switch..And if there any money left ill have a pint of guinness..
