calling wedgie
Discussion
Just been browsing on your wedgeneering pages, on (light pod motor stripdown). My pods are in place now and working ,up and down but one of them is slower than the other and a little noisy, could the delay be due to dirty contacts or does the fact that I also have a noise suggest something else. on close inspection the noise however could be coming from the arm.Other wedgemen are welcome to help on this one.

Sorry for the delay, been at a 50th 'do' for the weekend...
It's quite common for the pods to be out of synch., it's nigh-on impossible to get two independent motors to spin at the same speed without closed-loop control so you're at the mercy of winding resistance, magnetic strength, brush condition, friction etc. etc. - you just have to call it character
or buy a Porche 924 which has pods linked together
However they should be fairly quiet (although one of mine has always made a bit of a grinding noise) so try a squirt of light oil on the rose joints at each end of the lift arm - any tendency to stick here will be amplified by the fibreglass. If that fails try disconnecting the lift arm and see if the noise is from the motor itself; it may be that the armature endfloat needs adjusting (the screw and locknut on the end of the casing next to the gearbox) - though not all units have the adjustment; could be the armature bearings are dry or the output gear spindle bush is corroded. Might just be the lift arm scraping on the fibreglass somewhere...

Thanks for that, I will give it the once over ,though I suspect they most likely wont ever come up at the very same time.My wife who always applies logic to these situations said and I quote ,(whos going to stand in front of you in the dark and notice that one of your pods comes up or for that matter goes down after the other)shes right of course.By the way I put (calling wedgie) but I should have put (wedg1e)thanks again,Karl.

No probs, the PHer known as wedgie (Mike Wedge) actually drives (or did) a Chimaera and lives not far from me in Durham
