Wedge Jealousy

I don’t know about other Wedge owners but I am finding that more and more drivers on the road seem to go into a jealous mode at the sight of a TVR Wedge. The other day I had my Wedge parked in the drive way of my house. Now I know it’s a fairly busy road and everyone is in a hurry to get home, but some low life in the passenger seat of some Japanese Turbo, threw a half eaten apple at my Wedge, which landed on the bonnet, broke in two, (the apple, not the bonnet) and ended up inside on the drivers seat. Now, luckily, for him, the Wedge was facing the other way, so there was no time for me to give chase and stuff the remainder of the apple where the sun don’t shine. (or sing him the chorus from the Elvis song ‘Trouble’). Even other times when I’m out driving the Wedge, people cut me up or give the finger salute. This of course happens from the drivers of other, more inferior cars, and not from the drivers of cars in the same league as the Wedge. Although I do get a fair number of admirers and some even taking photos, there are those just a little jealous and not afraid to show it. I mean, is this just happening to me? just in London? or is it the same where you are?

Tony.

Dont worry mate you are not alone!!..Sunday i was on my way out with a lady friend and this joker deliberately pulls out in front of me on a roundabout and for no reason shouts "fk off" at me??..So i just shouted back "I wish you would"..Last week some guy in a clapped out 3 series convertible beema over took me just as we were coming up to a red light..he pushed his way in front of me much to the bemusement of other drivers..I proceeded to laugh out very loudly while pointing at his car and then shouting the odd "What a pile of rubbish"..He was looking at me in his rear view but didnt have the front to get out..I laughed at him everytime we came to a stop....But the positive outways the negative as everytime i go out in the wedge there are more people shouting out "Nice car"..Kids yelling "Woah" and people bibbing with the thumbs up..When i was out on sunday in sevenoaks i was waved at by a TR6 driver..An MGBGT..A lady in a boxster was grinning at me like a cheshire cat and then waved and as we went through the town a couple of people shouted out "Nice TVR"..So fk the jealous tts they are not worth the bother..Ziga

Totally the other way for me, so far at least. I get more people coming along side with the window down for a listen than anything else and then normally a thumbs up, wave, beep.

The other day I was off to a TVR meet at Blackpool and I joined the motorway just as a Z3M Coupe was coming along. As my good lady was in the car we were just cruising along but he slowed down just to give me a thumbs up and a wave and then carried on.

We are much more friendly up North though wink

In life some people are nice ans some not nice, some will be happy you have something and some will not. This applies to everything not just having a nice motor,I have a nice house which I have been restoring for nine years ,living in the worst conditions and another house which I have just built.I stil get lazy bums walking past on the way to the pub making negative comments,Im very hot headed but have learned to let it go and just smile to myself.Be proud of what you have and remember there are still many decent people around.Karl

Hi Nick.

I didn't know it used to be your car but yes I am looking after it very well. I am spending loads of money on it to get it the way I like it. This in my fourth TVR and third Wedge and by far the most enjoyable to own. I have even sung a couple of romantic Elvis songs to it, and it seems to respond well. All the best.

Elvis is cool....I've had mixed reactions mainly to the positive. A couple of tts in the past. Best of all has been the women type attention - when I had hair and was 2 stones lighter...biglaugh

Thats good then :-) I had it from 2000 to 2006. If you want any history from that period or photos ( stories ) from my ownership then drop me a mail.

Here in New Zealand, most 'petrolheads' haven't a clue what the wedge is, although quite a few kids know of TVR from the computer games, but haven't heard of the older ones. Most of them are very friendly and want to know what the engine is (not many colognes in NZ) and admire it.

There are some A**holes though. I got one in a ridiculous jap turbo crapbucket hassle me and kept
jumping in front, with the turbo blow off going "FOOOOSHH" every ten bloody seconds...and he gave me the finger just before he turned off.....

Calm....Calm.....Just remember that turbo won't last long....

Never seems to happen to me "Up North" (where people are more civilised?!!)

I have only ever had 1 "bad" incident in 7 years and literally hundreds of good responses

I think the 1 bad was from a London Chav girl who had escaped north!!!!! Ha Ha
She even had a Burberry baseball cap on as uniform

Very annoying though for that to happen to you Tony

Cheers

I had some clown last weekend on a certain motorway 'down south' convinced that his 11-plate Golf TDi was quicker than a 24-year-old plastic kit car from Blackpool. It wasn't. wink
How our lass laughed when I pointed out that the depreciation on his car in the next three years will probably be more than I paid for the TVR whistle

I generally get more positive than negative - but usually don't hang around much to hear either ;^)

Just had a nice conversation with a local chap in the Chinese and almost convinced him into buying one...

In your case Tony maybe some people just hate yellow - and that is VERY yellow....

Just dawned on me - the worst experience here in NZ is trying to get parts.....

"It's a What?" is a common cry in the Auto shops.

Actually the local Repco aren't too bad....they try hard at least.

Adam, you are right. Maybe the guy thought my car is a banana and wanted to add an apple to make a fruit salad. Or maybe, just MAYBE, he thought it was a Ferrari as it is a very popular Ferrari yellow and couldn't contain his jealousy. (the mystery apple thrower didn't look that clever).
