My 390SE is fitted with a Mallory Unilite 4768901 distributor which is now wrecked due to a balance weight coming off. I have the chance of getting a new 35DLM8 distributor for a quarter of the price of a new Mallory distributor. Does anyone know if this will work with the Mallory coil, Mallory Ballast Resistor and Mallory HyFire 6A Ignition box that is also fitted or should I take these out and fit an ordinary coil. Also the connector for the Mallory distributor has a 3 wire connector but would not fit the 35DLM8 as the connector is different. I presume I can get a connector but I don't know which wires go to which terminal on the 35DLM8. Any ideas ?

Thanks

Nige

My ignition is all Mallory although I don't use a Ballast Resistor as it is not needed if you are running a Hyfire. I also went for the recomended Promaster Coil. To answer your question though - I would stick to using the Unilite IMHO otherwise you'll waste the use of the Hyfire which may not be compatible with what you are proposing.

Mine is also fitted with a Promaster coil. The Mallory Distributor, coil, ballast resistor & Hyfire wre all fitted years before I owned it but the fitting instructions state that a Ballast Resistor is fitted.

It wasn't too bad until I tried to remove the Distributor which was stuck fast. A bit of gentle persuasion proved fatal as I managed to snap the top part of the distributor off. The vacuum advance had also stopped working so it's basically had it.
