I found a couple of web articles outlining that the Toyota 4WD truck calipers are a bolt on fit for
a TR6 PB16 caliper.

As we all know the Cortina Caliper is pretty much identical to the metric PB16....

Has anyone done this ?

Did it make a difference ?

Except it's not a Cortina caliper on the Wedge, it's a MK2 Granada one (assuming they are different), or MK2 Granada Estate ones on vented disc models...up to and including 390SE. smile

Remember that the Cortina had 13" wheels with 4 studs, whereas the Granada had the 5 stud 14" wheels.

Hence the Wedges have Cortina wishbones with Granada stub-axles to give 5 studs and bigger (I believe) brakes, originally with 14" wheels on the 280i Wedges.

Some aftermarket ones have been fitted by Wedgers though, to improve braking performance.

Do a search on here.

OOPS !! Of course, you are right. Duh !! Stupid of me.

However, I think the non-vented Granny caliper is still a P16M variant, just like the Cortina.
I know that one of the standard improvements was Austin Princess (very rare now),or Willwood (pricey !), So I just wondered if this was a different, cheap way of upgrading. [And Jap stuff is everywhere here in NZ, and cheap too ].

The Standard Wedge caliper is simply a Ford M16 caliper. Used on everything such as Escorts, Capris, Cortinas etc.
The vented granada caliper is a variant of the M16 and still has the same fixing points.

So, yes, if the Toyota caliper has the same fixing points, it should fit. However, it's important to check if there's any pad overhang (there is with a Princess caliper) as that's lost braking power.
Also, it depends how deep the caliper is, and if it'll fowl the back of the wheel.

An interesting alternative though!

If you have the original Telcast (sp?) 14" type wheels on your 280 they will not fit over vented disc Granada calipers.

That's an interesting fact.... didn't know that. I DO have original wheels.
Is it a depth issue rather than diameter/edge clearance ?

My wheels do seem to have a talent for shedding the balance weights, weights catch on water sheilds when removing the wheels.

The Toyota 4 pots appear to fit non-vented discs from the web article
(if you're interested search for 'Toyota TR6' in google, its a Vintage Triumph Register article)

I seem to remember it was depth...something was catching, so the wheels would not seat properly.

I had bought a set of original type wheels for my car so I could use it while having the cross-spokes it was wearing when I purchased it, refurbed.

The car had however also been fitted with the later vented discs and calipers...rendering the Telcasts unusable.

Perhaps it would be better for you to fit some 15" wheels anyway, so enabling a better choice of tyres ?

This was my car...with newly refurbed 14" cross-spokes.
