Anyone need a specific part made for their wedge?
Discussion
Hi all. Been away because I sold my car! I've now got a modest machining capability and have started making custom parts for people for beer money to stop my hands getting too clean now the wedge has gone!
I can make things like sensor bosses for those doing engine management conversions, spacers, brackets, bushings, adaptor plates, overrun valve blanking plates, cold start valve blanking plates, throttle pot adaptor plates etc etc. Possibly even oil pump drive assemblies for those with coilpacks who want rid of the distributor on the pre-serp rover engine?
I've even been known to make burr walnut veneered mahogany door strips to replace the originals when they get scruffy.
I'm not a trader, I have a day job; Not looking to make pots and pots of money, just enought to cover my costs and have a few quid left over at the end.
Drop me an email with whatever you need and I'll see if I can help.

Wow! I'll respond to everyone individually. The gear knob and woodwork ought to be fine.
Bezels: would they be required to stick to the front of the veneer panels or to clamp around the gauge faces? They'll be a little harder to make...
I think they push in tight with the veneer. Ed , we all really need these and have been looking for someone to make them !Bezels: would they be required to stick to the front of the veneer panels or to clamp around the gauge faces? They'll be a little harder to make...
Hi, I think you may have found a small industry here!!
I would be interested in door strip veneers and instrument bezels, also some sort of veneer or shiney surrounds for the gear gator, handbrake, ashtray and the little area on the centre console where we all put our wallet and phones!
Good luck!

There are bezels available..There are some on ebay if you know the sizes..There are loads of sites that sell them, You just need to search for them..There are these for starters..Ziga

I always found that wallet and phone were prone to ending up in the passenger footwell during "roundabout work" having started out in the tunnel top cubby. I also had an empty lunchbox (oo errr) levitate from the parcel shelf, hover for a moment and the fall into passenger footwell at speed when I took the long way home one day with the top down!
Thankyou for your thoughts and interest. I always found the double-skinned instrument panel somewhat baffling, and frankly I think its feasible to re-engineer it so the instruments load from the front rather than having the veneer panel blanking off the bezels. I will research both custom bezels and the possibility of a single-skin IP so bezels of the type Zig refers to would be on show rather than hidden #whydidTVRdothis?...

Work continues apace in the 'shop:

I made a dummy trial bezel (to no particular dimensions or fit) to see if my kit is capable of doing this sort of thing. The finish is turned and then 0000 grade wire wool to finish. There is the option of anodising to improve corrosion resistance.
The dummy trial bezel in the front of the pic has two ~45 degree chamfers and the overall diameter is 50mm since I had a piece of 50mm billet available. Material is 6082T6 Aluminium alloy (a standard engineering grade).
The spacers in the background are another job I finished this evening.
I am working on the gear knob, and will need a ball cutting jig to do that one, but it should be doable. Spherical gear knobs coming soon. I might even be able to get them laser etched with either a logo or shift gate pattern according to gearbox type (LT77 or R380/T5 patterns)? Threaded underneath to suit gearlever and helicoiled - Aluminium threads wear out pretty fast so helicoil defo advisable.
Your thoughts, please!

P.S. No CNC, just turnyhandles.

Spill the beans then, we need to know! Something CNCish or good old-fashioned manual?
