Guys, so im seeing conflicting measurements on like all specs of a 350i. What's the top speed of one? I read 124mph a lot, and 150~ ish.

I don't want to find out myself eventhough the autobahn is only 50 miles away from here...

Not sure it's all about speed smile Acceleration is much more fun than blowing the engine up revving it to red line !

Mind you my 350 had on several times indicated 140 on speedo, but on sat nav was doing 130. (Somewhere in south of France with roof up frown )

The 450 on the other hand would go to 150 on GPS but you needed 3 lanes or wide runwaysmile to go in a striaght line safely

A few years ago a previous owner had my 450 on a track day type event. On the straight/runway ( i can't remember where he said he was now ) he had a skyline on one side and a Griff on the other. He kept with them and on returning to the pits asked the two drivers what they were showing. They both reckoned they were nudging 160............

I wouldn't fancy it personally.

On an unrestricted Autobahn somewhere in Yorkshire :cough: I got my 390 off the clock at 160 late one Friday evening. It did need a good couple of lanes to itself and I was bricking it for more reasons than losing my licence.
Naturally I scoffed at the indication, after all 390SEs were only supposed to be good for 146 when new.
A year or so later I took Talbloke down to the Wedgefest; on the way back up he had his Garmin running, and that showed the speedo to be only 3% high at 100mph. I was even sceptical at that rolleyes
Then I got my own Garmin, that I use on the bike, in the van and in the TVR, in which it agrees with Roger's unit - 100mph indicated is 97 on the satnav.
On the bike, in Germany, on a genuinely unrestricted Autobahn I have seen 135 indicated when the bike said 142, and the usually quoted maximum for ST1300s is 144.
So the satnav would appear to be telling the truth. Thus, on a brief thrash in the 390 where the speedo said 135 and the satnav said 127, there's a large non-linearity developing on the TVR speedo (+6% by that stage) so if we extrapolate from that and say that at 160 the error was +10%, I'd have actually been doing 144, not far off the claimed top speed of 1985.

142 flat out with a 95k 3.5 motor and an FHC shell. No wind speed that you could notice . Felt alot faster at the time as wedges don't exactly seem to stick the the floor like glue. I think I remember this was about 5500 rpm. I'm sure the bigger engines are a bit faster but wedges have proper aerodynamic problems compared to modern stuff.

Coming down the A34 on Thursday my speedo was bouncing between 100 and 170 so I guess it is somewhere between the two.

Not sure it helps but it was fun finding out ;-)

I have done 137 with the lid on with a standard 350i - the rated speed on the button. The challenge these days is finding a length of unrestricted road long enough and quiet enough to get the last few mph.

Well as I said, mine's within 3% of the satnav up to 100mph... that's on standard 3.54:1 diff and 15" wheels.

The SEAC will do at max revs 5500 ish 155mph on the rolling road and ive seen 150 on the road with the roof off, just a bit windy and the car felt solid on the road.
