Have you got a picture Zig? I've got quite good at identifying switch gear!

FWIW the column controls on my '85 350i are all Rover SD1. Although mine is a Series 1.5 so is probably different to yours.

Hi Mate..Heres a couple of pics..I believe they are from an early TR7 or a late spitfire 1500..I have posted on the triumph forum as well to see if anyone can help..Alternatively even a later set would suffice so that i can still use my car whilst im having mine customised..Cheers..Ziga

Bingo!
http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-AAU7996

It's Triumph Spitfire 1500 - although I am sure I've seen 1500s which also have the SD1/Land Rover/Marina type generic BL stalk!

Quite expensive though, so might be worth giving Quiller Triumph in Woolwich a call. They have lots of Triumphs they're always breaking.

Cheers mate..The gauges do need slight calibration as they are a fraction out but they do look cool..I found a company that overhaul them and re-calibrate..Just tried quiller..They have a set but they want £30+vat for each side..I might just not drive the car whilst they are being done..Its cheaper..Thanks for the info..Cheers..Ziga

Actually I think it's more generic than that, and was fitted to quite a few Leyland/Rover/Triumph
models of that era, but yes, pretty hard to find at decent price now.

If you don't mind fiddling around, you ccould look at the ones from the Triumph 2000, Dolomite, Stag. I think they have a nicer feel to them too. Not sure if they are easier to find though.

Didn't the later wedges go Ford ? Or am I confusing with the S series ?

Ah, so early generic BL stalks as opposed to late generic BL stalks then? biggrin

I believe the late wedges went to a Ford Granada/Scorpio column and switchgear.

Yep!

Even on the later stile BL stalks the wiring changes (Inic/Wipe) so you have to be carefull

Good point.... My series 1 280 has a change too, for the washer motor switch. The original was wired to earth on one side, but TVR changed it to a separate wire. Effectively it means TVR put the switch between ign and the motor, with motor to earth, whereas original Leyland must have been motor to live, and switch to earth. (does that make sense ?)

Generic Stalks - yes MANY of them are - I remember even my old Cortina Mk1 had a switch mechanism which matched my Triumph 2000 mk1, only the stalks and mounting detail differed a little, so could have been interchanged with a bit of fiddling. I think there really is a series of generic ones by date.....

Ford Stalks and column. That might be a useful upgrade ... Does anyone know where column came from ?

I believe the column came from a TR7 originally..The adjustable ones were from a rover SD1 and then the latter..(End of the 80s).. were ford granada and scorpio MK3..Although the steering UJs were TVR and are exposed to the elements..I must remember to grease mine as i had them replaced a little while ago!!..Ziga

Yep TR7 (left hand drive I think) to start with, which is wot mine has got, but then I wasn't sure, so it's good to know. Photos of later 400s etc I have seen did make me think they were Ford stalks, so that all makes sense.

Hi Mate..I originally got my steering knuckle from James paddock ltd but they are going through site developement at the moment..Rimmer bros have the same thing if its the one for your column,Mine is off a TR7 but think yours may be a ford part?..The part number is UKC2449, It was around £28..You will need to replace the bolts and washers..I also had the steering column bush replaced..Cheers..Ziga

Thought I could help you out for a minute Ziga, but it is different. This is off an early S1 280.

I've also got a set of gauges that look the same as yours.
