Voltage regulator -
Discussion
My rev counter is not quite accurate when driving, at 2500 rpm then turn my lights on the the dial goes up to 6000rpm so asked Ed what i could do, he was saying about a voltage regulator, i am going to try the earth first but if anyone else has had this problem please let me know what you did.
My engine is different because i have a Megasquirt system fitted, no coil.

Hi
Tach is not usually connected to a voltage regulator anyway. It's usually only temp / fuel / oil pressure gauges that need a constant supply voltage to prevent the battery condition effecting the readings.
What type of tach is it ? I had to modify my SW unit from current pulsed (tach in series with the coil) to voltage pulsed (tach in parallel to coil) as it's now driven by the Megajolt output. It seems TVR used both types of tach drive on the wedges...

I wold also look at the software on your ECU Jonny as I know your car is running MS2, you should look into how the rev counter is driven as you dont have a standard coil to run the couter off.
It may be a bad earth but have a look for Daxtojeiro prfile http://www.extraefi.co.uk/
Have a word with him im sure you will sort it out soon.
Ive got started on my ECU upgrade on the SEAC
Good luck

Simon - dont know which tach it is, i'll look into it.
Thanks for the other answers lads, think i'll go with the TVR motto first -- check the earth then take it from there.
PS -Campbell, hope you get the upgrade fixed soon and get the car on the road cheers.
thanks again jonny.
