Hi Peeps...After a brown trouser moment with the alternator on friday i have gone out today and purchased a 0.8KG car fire extinguisher...Question is where to fit..Ive found two places that might be adequate..Its okay when the roof is down but what if its up?..I did consider in front of the passenger seat but fixing would be a bit of a nightmare..So..Its either centre console..(Although its not fix down).. or the rear section behind seats?..Where do you have yours..If you have one?..Cheers..Ziga

Bolted to the side in the boot. Bigger that that, maybe 20" tall, just clears the top support. Of course I put it there before I fixed the boot latch so in the event of an electrical meltdown probably not such a good place.

Mine used to be mounted in front of the passenger seat as this piccy

Since having the carpets redone it just sits in the boot.

4 in the boot and 1 down the side of the passenger seat!!..Were talking about FIRE extinguishers...NOT shotguns!!...hehe..I wouldnt put mine in the boot as i have to fiddle about trying to open it as it is let alone in an emergency..I think mine will be fixed to the rear section as it is easily reached if the worst happens...Ziga

Bolted to the side between driver seat and door. Second could be on the passenger side.
Had it in front of the passenger seat on the floor in the past, but didn't like it.
Consider this small stuff only to perhaps rescue people not the car, for the car 2.5kg would only be a start...

I would think with your record of luck with the car, that you should fit one under the bonnet, on the back shelf and one in the boot! One in every area, save you time when it goes up again! hehehehehehe

Mine is bolted to the side in the boot, to big to put near the front seat, and it gets serviced every year!

O and by the way Mr Zig shotgun,s do fit behind the seat better than in the boot laugh

mmm....I wonder if filling a shotgun cartridge with extinguishing powder instead of shot would be a good way of putting out a fire..It would certainly be more fun..yes..Although i dont think the local constabulary would think it was very funny!!.

First thing the fire brigade will do if they turn up to an engine bay fire is put a pair of bolt croppers through the battery leads... so maybe you need some of those, not a fire extinguisher wink
In the event of an electrical fire caused by a dodgy alternator, you may put the flames out with your 2kg of powder but unless you then remove the cause of the problem (ie disconnect the battery), it'll just re-ignite...

Maybe a fuse is a better precaution then..If so i will take the extinguisher back and get a refund!!..Cheers..Ziga

Whatever you do, don't spill brake/clutch fluid on a hot manifold. It WILL go up like the car in that picture - I almost lost the 390 that way. Petrol (contrary to popular myth) doesn't ignite quite as happily that way, it'd rather flash off into vapour and dissipate.

Actually my alternator was subject to a power steeing fluid leak for ages as it sits right underneath it...Maybe this had a part to play in the death of the diodes?...I have managed to stop the leak by changing the cap!!..Im going to get the output checked on the alternator this morning and inquire as regards to fusing it...Cheers..Ziga

yes Don't get clutch fluid on a hot turbo either.

Hi Peeps...Had the alternator tested and its doing what it should do...Im going to see if i can replace the charging feed with a ford fuse wire cable..If i can find one or two..It now transpires that the starter is playing up after all..Went to start it earlier after a 10 mile journey and it stops mid-crank and starts again..I might check to see if it has vibrated the bolts loose as apparently it was something that could happen on the capri's..If not its a new or reconditioned starter..Im hoping it might just be the selonoid..I suppose after all thats been done there are still parts that might as well get changed as they are only going to fail anyway..The to do list has grown considerably...I also have a possible career change opportunity that im looking into..Im going to need it!!..Cheers..Ziga
