i thought my power steering had packed up, so i swaped the pump with no improvement. Then when stripping the shaft off with the u/js i found the top mount seized. Replacement totally transformed the car
Same thing happened with my 400, I thought it was the rack but ater replacing the top uj it steers as easy as my fiesta! Got mine brand new from David Geralds.
Andy
Mine seized completely in one direction and was a complete nightmare to get off, but I think that was more down to the UJ on my car. It seems at some point it had been replaced with a seriously heavy duty one, way bigger than standard. God knows what it came from. Also I think my upper column is non-standard as the diameter of the shaft is larger than it should be.
This meant I couldn't get a replacement, but I sent it to Richard Thorpe (He hadn't seen anything like this one either) and he has able to have it rebuilt. Took about a week and it came back perfect. Went on easy and steering became easy again...or as easy as non-power steering on a wedge gets!!

I think mine came to about £50 including vat and postage, but mine was more because it was an unusual/bigger UJ.
I think the regular rebuilds are around the £35 mark. I think he has replacements for the most if not all of the standard types used on the cars in stock so a rebuild shouldn't be necessary.
Your best bet would be to call him and ask on 0114 281 7507.

Many thanks Uriel...
thought my top one had gone, but took both off and thhe botom was just about seized, top one very lose. Rang TVR factory up and they said 3 types were fitted. Of course mine was the type they had on back order.
Sent them of to RT racing and they arriced back 3 days later. Made a large difference to the 350. Both were for about £100 new but of course I then ordered more shiny bits for the 400 as you do.

Just thought you guys might like to know that NEW steering UJs are available from Car Builder Solutions (no connection, other than just ordered this UJ today ) I've seen three UJ types on a wedge now - the TR7 one (long with different holes), the SD1 with one long bit as per wedge bible , and mine which has two 14mm x 36 spline holes in both ends with a symettric 80mmx38mm body, which is the smallest I've seen so far. Was going to send it off to RT, but the weather is too good to have me wedge languishing...

Hi,
I've been having a problem where my steering (with power) steers lighter one direction than the other. Did any of you guys see this kind of symptom and was it fixed with new/lubed steering UJ's?
Nigel
Sounds more like a problem with the rack or the suspension settings than the U/J's
