Air filter cleaning
Discussion
Halfords do a K&N Recharger kit which is specially designed for the paper type filter..(The red ones)..It has a cleaner which can be washed off and the correct oil..(RED)..to seal it up again..You can use petrol or soap and water on the mesh type but i would use the correct applications for the paper type..It was around £20 and there is enough for a few cleans and re-seals..I used the cleaner on my mesh type but have no use for the oil if anyone wants it?...Cheers..Ziga

Mines a mesh filter and needs a light spray with oil..The bottle in the kit has a spout and it makes a right ole mess if you try to use that..As i discovered on a previous car!!..I thought it was bleeding..
For my sins I ended up at one point specifying air filters for a car manufacturer. We looked closely at oiled foam/cotton filters; they're not as efficient as paper filters but have lower flow restriction - no surprise there, but the oil on them is crucial; they filter by dust particles sticking to the oil ('tackifier' they call it, not oil...) WD40 will not do the job.
