Well guys car is tucked away in its cosy garage.Bought the car approx 18 mounths ago .Car haid been laid up 4 years .Is it possible to cut chassis tube under to the gearbox to drop the gear box. As i am worried about the cost of lifting out engine and box.Car had a new clutch 9 thousand miles ago. If its the clutch realease bearing making a noise is it because of lack of use...My mate is a very good welder so no worries there.Could you not brace the chassis with new metal above gear box before cutting the tube .Thanks for your help Mike 350is2.Surley if its possible tvr should have bolted the tube .lol....

Hi Mike
As you know i have only just brought one of these cars, buti used to be welder, so as long as you X brace the frame before removal, you should have no issues what so ever, good luck, Ralph

Before I started cutting the chassis I would have a look inside the housing with a brilliant gizmo i bought from one of the well known high street electronic shops. Its a cheap and cheerful endoscope works through my laptop. Have a look at what is going on in the bell housing. I took off the slave cylinder and went in there to check crank oil seal. Its also brill for looking at the outriggers and those pesky water pipes in the alley gasket by the way!

If you can put up with the noise it will be fine for a very long time, quite a common problem esp. if left standing, so no real reason to replace, your better off waiting till the clutch needs doing and do both.

Just for your info the clutch can be changed with splitting the gearbox in situ. Gives about 4inch clearance.
Personally i would take it for a good run and asses it then.
Chainsaw oil is fantastic for bearings,it is so thick apply any bearing with a syringe and pipe.
Best of luck

yes I did it like that...

1. Go to the top of the forum
2. Open the FAQ articlue (sic)
3. Look for clutches (that's clutches, not crotches)
4. It's the 4th one in the clutch list.

Same same on mine its been Like that since I bought it 7 teEs ago and no problems whatsoever. Oh Aye except sometimes it makes a hell of a crunch going into reverse after being stood for a while but works fine when driven forward.
