400SE Headlamp Refurb
Discussion
After ending the last season with both pods raised due to one deciding to mainly hide, I noticed how scruffy they where when raised so as well a giving the motors a look at I thought I'd sort out the cosmetics as well.
Having stripped everything down the plates that hold the light units into the pod are in a right state so I'm making some new ones from 3mm Aluminium plate which will be powder coated and held in with some nice stainless fittings.
However I've now got the whole lot dismantled and I didn't take any pictures of the pods when retracted so I now no idea why the plates appear to have been "trimmed" at their lower edge.

Anyone got any ideas before I put the whole lot back together again, near side looks like someone has been at it with either a knife n fork or an angry grinder ?

Cheers Ian,
Under the pods is just a void with the lift motor and bracket in and I can't see any signs of them rubbing on anything, theirs a pretty even coating of rust on everything !
Think I'll have do a dummy build with the lamps removed to see how much clearance there is, bit of a pain as everything is stripped down ready for power coat. Better to find out if parts won't fit before powder coating then afterwards I suppose !

It's not going well....
I took the old offside plate to work, and made an exact copy using it as a template
Brought it home and guess what it doesn't fit - OK it does but you could drive a bus around it

Checked the original it's a bad fit too but as the steel is black (and rust) on the blue pod it's not obvious the new ally one has a greater contrast so it stands out more. Lucky the 3mm plate I got is big enough to make 3 so I'm going to make cardboard templates this time....
Can't belive I was stupid enough to simply copy the TVR part
