Exhaust pipes that is. Just got my Taz back from a clutch job and some other bits so next on tap is getting the exhaust redone. Just curious what people have what works well, what doesn't. Right now I have the exhast done using elbows and couplers from the parts store then welded together. It is an amazingly funny piece of work done by a previous owner. My thought is to just run the manifolds into a single pipe with a resonator then split back after the dif to two race mufflers like this.

Thought and pics please!

Are you going to build it yourself or get a custom one built on the car?

If you just want a replacement maybe the guys at ACT will ship one over for you?

I've not used them myself but the system in the picutre looks good for the money.

I'm gonna have it made. Don't think I want to put the $1000 into the ACT it would take to get it here. Its beautiful but...

It's almost car show time, so a wander round a car show til you see a bucket ford or similar and ask them "who made your exhaust"

It is often just a Midas or other chain shop where the owner is a car guy.

Using the diag in Section S of the parts manual as a starting point for discussion as what you want.
Post if you need the diagram.

Probably best to have it made to fit the car anyway as they all seam to be different.

Mine has tubular manifolds running to a single silencer above the proshaft, then out into two exits. It's pretty quiet considering there's only one small silncer in the system. It's only about 18" long by 6" wide. It's a tidy system that never grounds out because it all runs above the chassis.

Mine has two completely separate mirror image systems with no joins between them. It was fitted when I bought the Wedge and it's all in stainless which is lucky. I understand it matches one of the original patterns, known as "the export system" by David Gerald etc. I have a diagram somewhere which had a 'SS exhausts' logo (Devon, I think, from memory) Pipe is all 1 3/4" (?? I think) maybe 1 1/2" can't remember...

It has two large oval boxes under the seats, with in and out pipes being 90 degree bends (so that the box sits under the seats), and then it has two smaller circular ('tube') type boxes at the rear, just before the tailpipe trim pieces. Main problem is very limited clearance where the pipes clear the rear floorpan. Regular globs of exhaust cement and wincing over the speed humps. Also at some time boxes have burnt the glass under the seats (!!!) and it's been bodged over - boxes have some asbestos tape type heat wraps around them, and that's probably why..

It's a nice low speed rumble without being too noisy, and it goes quiet at about 2500 rpm, around 70mph or so in top (4) gear

I was told that the 'standard' (2.8) type system was very like the earlier Vixen/Tuscan arrangement with a large single box with dual inlet/outlets and then two smaller boxes... but apparently this too had some ground clearance issues.... But who knows ? I could be totally wrong.
