What is the recommended rubbery paint that goes in front of the rear arches on a 400SE?

Need to tidy mine up a bit.

Cheers, Chris.

when i had mine painted we used a rubberised black stone chip, can't remember what the paint called it but you need specialist kit to apply it, we also used it on the inside panels of the engine bay. looks great, will try and find out what its called.

Armafend it instead. Will stop the chips and as it is clear you will see the original colour.

That is my plan when I eventually get mine resprayed

"Protectakote" is a rubberized coating mainly used for pickup/trailer beds. Comes in several colours, bit expensive but very good and tough. Worth considering.

Depends on how much you wanna spend but i self applied a few coats of black stone chip then black hammerite on top. Not a professional job but tidy enough and very cheap.......................

I've been thinking about making some CF covers to replace the paint.

That could look good. Quite difficult to get the covers to match the contours I guess?

well I'll take all the paint off my car, then take a mold of the area, and use that to make up the cover.

The other thing I've seen that looks ok, is the black taken off, and then some clear proctor stuff put on.

When I did mine a few years back I just got some stonechip stuff from the local motor factors. Was more paint biased than rubberised coating. I carefully masked the paintwork off from the area needing spraying and then used a fine grit wet and dry paper to give it a key. Did a couple of coats and let it dry for a few hours and then removed the masking. Job done.

To keep it looking black and shiny I just put some tyre dressing on it when I do the tyres. I use the Meguires gel based dressing as it goes on where you want it to!!

Last time I used dinitrol or hamerite. I sprayed a e section of card to see what the finish was like and went for what I thought looked the best. I used decorators masking tape and it will follow the edge of the existing bit curves n all and then you can cover as required and get on with the spray.
