Just back from the great wedge fest, thanks guys for organising it for us and a shame about the chimp driver making an arse of himself not to mention the damage it could do too all TVR owners, still he shouldn't show his face at another event so that's one blessing.
I digress.
Does anyone know if a stand alone electronic idle control system is available as I feel it would be the only way to maintain a steady low tick over when a hot cam is fitted. I have the flapper type system which I don't want to change as I wish to try and keep the under bonnet appearance normal.

Bloody hell, that cam must be as pointy as Madonna's tits then! I have a high-lift fast-road job and I can get a nice smooth 600-700 rpm idle without much trouble (or I could before the present difficulties started).... what are you using?

Depending on how comfortable your are with electronics it should be possible to use a std idle speed control motor ( audi?) plumbed in to replace the rover one. If you were then to use a speed control unit (see maplins etc) which would run the motor to reference a control frequency (engine rpm in this case) it should cycle / pulse the motor which could then be set to the idel speed you want.

Thanks for the info guys I will take the info on board and have a look at Maplins. At the moment I have a Kent 180 cam which I set to around 900 RPM but as the electric fan kicks in this can drop to 700 and if you throw in head lights and w/screen wipers it can go lower, all this when you are parked on a boiling hot evening on the M25 trying to get nowhere fast. Perhaps I worry too much !!!
My aim is that when I swap to a 4.6 block to take advantage of the increased potential then a hotter cam is essential and I am just a bit paranoid about the engine stalling on tick over, especially if my wife is driving. But I also enjoy trying to make things on the Tiv that bit better.

Sounds interesting.

I've had a continuing problem with my idle. The car was stalling under hot idle, so I had it adjusted. Now I have a fast idle problem, but I know that if I get it adjusted down again I'll be back to the stalling problems.

An idle controller would be a great compromise. If it is a bit high or low, then fine tune it from the cockpit.

Marvellous.
