Fellas ,

My little 200 tasmin has good old fashioned wind up windows. Alas the drivers side one is truly knackered. As usual my question would be , where did Mr Wheeler and his talented workforce (!) source/steal these from?

Thanks

The electric ones are SD1 rover, so perhaps the wind-up versions are SD1 rover manual spec?
Interestingly, according to the Steve Heath book, although offered as an option to reduce price, no cars were built with manual windows.
Yours would seem to suggest otherwise! biggrin

Ah thats interesting I am considering going the other way....on my 1980 280i

I have my passenger side window that drops out of the runner if you wind it down too far (we have sussed out why and could fix it given some time) and a motor that keeps sticking on the drivers side.

I have a "spares" car so have the bits to sort it out but was considering conversion to manual if its feasable/easy. Then it's one less thing that can go wrong.

Maybe I need to start hunting for SD1 windows mechs and see?

My brother in law is MD of a company that rebuilds window motors, I can see if he can either source replacements or the cost of rebuild if you interested?

Yeah bottom of rails too far apart....

I've had a lot of trouble with the windows on mine too - the design is a bit crap if you ask me. The adjustment on the bottom of the doors is just a big hole with big washers, the rear rail rattles and will twist given half a chance, and both my motors had very worn brushes and burned innnards (looks like previous owner had a fetish for the windows going up and down !!)

A LOT of time spent adjusting and adding a few bolts here and there, and it's better, but still a bit dodgy really. I ended up taking both doors apart entirely (skin off too) and rebuilding everything, which helped.
