I got the Wedge back from the garage yesterday and the mechanic asked me to take it out the garage and park it in the pub car park next door while he got the next car in. I pulled up in the pub car park where a lot of people were drinking in the front on the benches etc. as the weather was good. Some guy walks over to me and says 'is it a TR7 mate?'. That's when I thought of Zigs idea of a rear window sticker.

Nice one Zig.
What pisses me off even more is that the early wedges (like mine) have a bloody great TVR logo on the front and yet people STILL ask. How F..king dumb can you be ??
Or I get the other favourite "Is it a Triumph" ...er... WTF?
But here in NZ there is the pleasant warm experience every now and then of someone looking at it and saying "Wow, a real classic TVR...you don't see many of those here" and it almost makes up for all those w*nkers who think it's a TR7.

Yes I had this once, a guy pulled up beside me on a motorbike and said 'lovely TVR mate, I haven't seen one of these for years and it brings back some memories'. That comment made up for the rest of the TR7 comments I get.

I get the occasional kiwi that knows what my car is, but the majority ask me what sort of Triumph it is.What pisses me off even more is that the early wedges (like mine) have a bloody great TVR logo on the front and yet people STILL ask. How F..king dumb can you be ??

I explain to them about TVR and they just nod - probably going away still thinking they have seen one of those rare TR7's!

A couple of weeks ago when i was going to park i parked up at a bestco express to get some monies out and there was a guy in a van who lent out and said "Havent seen one of them for years".."I used to own a couple"..I said.."Whats that" and he said "TR7s"...
..I said "ITS A TVR"...Then when i got to the park gate there were two builders doing some work on the curb stones and as i was about to enter the park one of them said "Cor look at that TR7"...
..I stopped and shouted "ITS A TVR"..
...
Do they look similar???..

In fairness, if you dont know too much about cars, there is a bit of a similarity between the tr7 and this type of tvr.
..Well i suppose they both are convertible..They both have two doors..A steering wheel..The same steering column..Light pod motors..They both have front bumper mounted side light and indicator..The bonnet opens the same way...Headlight switch and indicator stalks are the same..Same bonnet release cable...Only one has a big f
k off badge saying TR7 and the other has one saying TVR..I agree that its best left to people who know the difference, I was quite surprised when i drove through a well to do area not far from me and a lot of the younger guys say "Nice TVR mate"..Thank you to those in the know..

The only similarity is some of the parts!
The TR7 is a smaller car, its slower (Apart from some of the TR8's)
But some people like them, I must admit I had one in 1978 but soon changed to a TVR in 1980

No disrespect to TR7 owners but in my opinion the TR7 is an ugly looking car with big black bumpers, sounds like a saloon car and drives even slower. The TVR Wedge on the other hand, especially the six and eight cylinder models are muscle cars that sound awesome and the wedge design is a work of art. Yes, the TR7 is a wedge shape design too, but a very poor attempt if you ask me.
