Well the limits are:
4.50% vol (Co)..1200ppm..vol (HC)..Mine was 2.62%vol & 176ppm vol...I think the RV8 should be around 200ppm vol..(HC)?..I think your CO should be around 3.50% vol although im not 100% on it but i should imagine if you are under the limits then you should be fine...Cheers..Ziga

Did it fail on CO or HC ?
Mine failed on HC due to the tester leaving it idling for most of the test, took it up the road for an Italian tune and it passed the emissions no problem.
An 'Italian Tune' I like that!Mine failed on HC due to the tester leaving it idling for most of the test, took it up the road for an Italian tune and it passed the emissions no problem.
I used to have a Defender 110 Td5. One MOT station told me to go and 'get it good and hot', so I went and thrashed it a mile or so away, brought it back and they tested its emissions immediately!

I think a well tuned carb lump should give CO below 3%, and injection systems (even the 2.8 'K' Jet) should get under or about 2% ....I think modern digital systems get down to around 0.5%.
Zig, I think that 2.6% means your wedge is slightly rich... ?
But as soon as anyone fits a wild cam, it really screws up the idle emissions !!

Yep i think mine was turned down to 1.5% but.............has a wilder cam than original. Apparently.Zig, I think that 2.6% means your wedge is slightly rich... ?

Hi Jay,
Never once failed an MOT in my 9 years of ownership. The Handbrake cables were always greased at every service, Probably need to adjust the handbrake pads ( take out the split pin, screw it right in, and then back off to the next hole) and adjust the cable. emmisions were always excellent. Does the tester know that if they fail at tickover, he has a 20 second option to run it up to 2000 rpm and retest.

Zig,
Just went and double checked my old and tatty workshop manual(s)
Ford 2.8 V6 (for Granada)
Carb (solex) - idle 850rpm CO% 2.5-2.75
Bosch 'K' jet - idle 900rpm CO% 1.25-1.5
Ford EEC-IV - idle 850rpm CO% 0.5-1.0%
So 2.6% is a bit rich - you can adjust K jet yourself with the right tool, which is a really long 3mm Allen key....ask for details !!

Thanks for that mate..Looks like mine is running over half as much more than it should be..There is a guy i normally use who tunes "K-jetronic" systems as he is very familiar with them, The ford guy did it last time by ear and by applying gentle throttle to see how the return was..I would prefer to know what its been set to..Cheers for the info...Zigamrzigazaga said:

Must admit I do mine by ear, having set (SU) carbs by ear for a LONG time.... The mistake a lot of people make is to set where it idles best (and fastest), which is too rich.
You should do that but then back off the mixture just a little bit so idle falls slightly. At least that's the way I was taught in the stone age !
On a decent run, my wedge gives me around 30-32 mpg, on highways (legal limit here in NZ is 100km, 60mph) which I reckon is pretty good.

@njhucker - Hi Nigel, I know, and I feel like I've let you and the car down, the handbrake may be due to the fact that I stored it with the handbrake off (my dad's Daimler with the same rear axle handbrake seized on) therefore may be my fault.
Emissions wise, well I've never had much luck with these Efi Rover V8s at emissions testing, my SD1 Vitesse from a few years ago failed too, was told it was the air flow meter which I replaced, but it wasn't in the end, we ran the car without it's K&N and it passed lol
They're looking at it tomorrow (Tues) so hopefully should be sorted by end of day

Passed
They had to free up the handbrake, it was sieized off, (my fault probably due to leaving handbrake off during Winter inactivity)and emissions were sorted, but said car was "chipped" ~shrugs~
Never mind, here comes another 12 months TVR motoring
and I mean 12 months too, I'll use it during the Winter too on those crisp fresh days
