Thanks to a broken wrist the car hasn't been on the road for the last 3 years! Too many other summer time toys has also slowed down the return to the fold!
New battery carefully squeezed into the battery tray!
New UJ Fitted on offside drive shaft.
Insurance is all sorted -£112, can't go wrong!
MOT passed with the help of new windscreen washer pump!
Taxed for 6 months!

Had first drive this morning, and I would have to say its great to be back in the saddle!

The things you forget when not driving a wedge?

How quickly you can get them up and running again!
Just how loud they are/mine is!
How much attention they attract!
Effort involved in driving a car without power steering!
How bad the uk roads actually are!
That adrenalin feeling associated with wondering if you will actually get home!
That constant 80c reading on the temperature gauge (I kid you not)!
Checking of oil pressure gauge!
There's no point in looking at dash board to see what the air temperature is (too used to driving modern cars!)
The cost of fuel!
That tingling in the ear feeling when you get home!
The fact that neighbour 50m down the road tell you that they heard you start it up!

It's great to have the old girl back up and running!

Things I can think of -

How a REAL clutch feels (heavy)
How a gearbox with no bias springs feels (4 speed type E)
How that passenger window needs a bit of help to wind up
How the car scrapes on the bigger speed ramps
How many people look up because of the noise.
How quick you get the the legal limit with little effort
How much fun it is !!
How much rougher the ride is (but still fun)

How many F..king idiots THINK IT'S A TR7 biglaugh [ oops, wrong thread...]

How utterly useless the side mirrors are
How wildly the fuel guage reading can vary within seconds
How you must remember to check the bonnet bolts after each drive
How annoying the exhaust is as it knocks on the chassis

Has the engine been turned over in the mean time?

If not, take all the spark plugs out, put a squirt of oil (5ml each - a teaspoon) into the holes, turn it over slowly (rear wheel jacked up, stick it in 4th then turn the rear wheel), if it won't turn the let the oil soak in overnight.

Then stick it on the starter for a few cranks until the oil pressure comes up. This also chucks any excess oil out the holes.

Put the plugs back in then start her up.

How frigging hard i've set my suspension on my wedge.
How staggeringly loud the noise is.
Why I must drive this monster much more often.
How ridiculously fast she is.
Why people keep staring at her - is something wrong .
Why the wife doen't really like her due to petrol/exhaust fumes.
Every time I drive seac I think of another upgrade.
Constant awareness of lousy handbrake.

How it spends more time in the workshop than on the road.
How it guzzles the gas
How its draining my wallet
How its improving my mechanical knowledge
How it annoys the neighbours
How it annoys the Mrs.
How it pulls the birds
How it helps me pose
How its a conversation topic (usually with traffic police)
How it helps me to accumulate more points
How I always stink when I get out
How it makes me feel like formula one driver
How it helps me cruise
How it helps me to frighten the passengers
How it improves my doughnut making skills
How I gain respect from other road users

How its been my weekend hobby.

How accurate all the gauges are..
How they have a mind of their own..

Hmmm. I see these list are going the same way, so some different angles.

How amazing the Wedge is almost 40, and can join the Vintage car Club !
How amazing that I've had the car for 20 years !
How amazing it is that it still starts pretty much every time. (V6)
How amazing it is that the gauges still work. (but not too accurately)
How good the body is for 40, no serious cracks, but quite a few chips.
How amazing that there are no cracks in the dash varnish - I wish the door handles were as good.
How happy that the headlamps and electrics on mine *DO* work properly (yeah, after much work...)
How much better the alternate steering column and control stalks are. (Dolomite)
How amazing the difference that extra bearing on the bottom of steering column makes. (as article)

How horrible the all black wiring is, and how bad some of the connectors were.
How hard it is to read the speedo, especially for kmh (SW speedo).
How good my on the spot maths conversions mph to kph, especially when the police here enforce limits to 4 KPH !!

How I notice my knees creak getting in and out.
How much harder it seems to be to crawl underneath that it used to be.
How much sorer my hands get - I think I'm getting old....

How much fun it STILL is to drive, despite [200-odd things deleted ]
