I paid for an advert on here and haven't had a nibble in three weeks, not a single inquiry or even a p1ss take offer. That hasn't been too much of a hardship as the weather has been good and I have been enjoying driving it but now the wife is asking if I am really trying to sell it.

So, where else should I try and sell it. Anyone used eBay and if so, how much does it cost and was it a success? Any other suggestions?

Nick

If you us e-bay you need to set either the starting price or reserve right!
If not it can sell below what you want!
Yes you get charge every way you can think off!
But you have more chance of selling it!
Other than that its the usual motor mags with car sale adds!

If you sell it on ebay there are fees if you set a reserve, fees if you set a 'buy it now' price and there is a 'final value' fee which is a percentage of whatever it goes for.....................

Hi Mate...Im always looking at the classifieds and notice that most of the wedges that are for sale sit there for quite a while sometimes and all of a sudden they nearly all sell at once...The main sellers seem to be 400-450..SE..SEACs..Or limited editions...There is a red 350i which is in mint all over condition, Detailed engine bay...It has been restored and had tons of work done on it but it has sat there for a few months now..They say patience is a virtue!!..I would make a lousy doctor as i have no patience...Good luck, Someone will come along...Ziga

I had my Wedge up for sale on PH for three months and there was a fair amount of response and interest. Unfortunately the offers were far too low as I had spent a lot of money on the car as did the previous owner. I decided to keep it for now and enjoy another summer. My gain their loss. However, you could try Ebay as that would be seen by buyers not necessarily looking for a Wedge but could be tempted when you point out the advantages of owning one. It's worked for me before, but is a little more expensive to advertise. Failing that, I guess it would have to be classic car magazines etc. Remember when selling a Wedge. It's not like any other car. You are doing the buyer a favour by parting with your pride and joy, not the other way round. All the best and good luck.

For ebay Motors the actual charges are different:

Insertion Fee:
£10 (auction or Buy it now)
Classified Ad £14.99

Final value Fee:
£2,000.00 to £3,499.99 - 1%
£3,500.00 and above - £35.00

Classified Ad - No Final Value Fee applies

As I said your get charges for every thing and then even more!

So you need to set your start price and reserve price correctly. A "Buy it know" price has to be set high as you get charged even more!

Good luck which ever way way you decide to sell it by!
We need the prices to go higher, things are still to cheap for what they are!

Thanks for the advice. I guess I will take a punt on eBay as I want to progress more quickly with my G46 project.

Andy - I am all in favour of driving prices up. It is yours for £15,000 delivered!

It is all about the pricing... You are asking top(ish) money for a 350i and could therefore hold out for the right person to come along if you have time - the next 2-3 months are the buying time for ragtops.
Alternatively, 0.99p start on fleabay with a sensible reserve if you need to sell quickly. Similar price on a Buy it Now /Classified can be a waste of time....

All IMHO of course.

I've sold 2 cars as Classified Ads through e-bay. It isn't expensive so worth a punt and it stays up for 28 days.

One off fee which you know upfront and no add on fees afterwards

To be honest I think it's over priced by £1000 to £1500.

Only my opinion though.

Plus I thought they called them 4 barrel, not 4 pot...

I always think, what would I want to pay for this car. Then add some for haggling.

THIS

Its at the top end for a standard 350 (forget the dealer prices) and with a "moody" paint job, and "tired" interior, you have the two most expensive improvements against you.

Not knocking you mate, but you appear to be in a rush....and "top-ending" her is why she is still on your drive.

I reckon £3500 (ballpark) is your Bait !!

Regardless...best of luck as it has been great reading your posts, and pleeeeese keep us informed on the Scimitar (i love them)

Sold my 350i through ebay classifieds a couple of years back. The 2nd owner, who sold it some 15 years before, spotted it on there (well, his son did and recognised the reg from some old photos). He travelled up from Brighton and paid the full asking price as he was so pleased to have found it again. So you never know...

Nick It's good to see that you've taken advice and dropped the price a little (and modified the Holley description).

Best of luck with the sale.

PS I've just been offered a Scimitar (not sure which), by a chap who was talking to my Dad in the pub. Belonged to an old chap who hadn't used it for years. Sadly the old fellow has passed on and his son wants rid of the Scimitar...

Convert - i have learned to listen to good advice. Don't mention the Scimi again, my wife will kill me if i buy another car. 4 is enough apparently but she doesn't drive so what does she know.
